Richard Hammond slowly improving

Neither Top Gear USA nor The Car Show have managed to create much excitement here in the U.S., but local broadcasters are determined to produce an auto-related television show that will appeal to American masses.

Now BBC America is entering the fray, announcing the new show Hard Drive that will feature British Top Gear personality Richard Hammond. The show’s full title is actually "Hard Drive with Richard Hammond".

The reason why we need yet another U.S. produced car show? Because of BBC America’s success with shows such as the original Top Gear, Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and The Graham Norton Show.

As for Hard Drive, it will be based on the existing British show World's Toughest Driving Tests and will feature Hammond traveling the U.S. and competing with local experts driving some of the country’s toughest and most extraordinary vehicles.

But the story doesn’t end there. Turns out BBC America has also signed on fellow Top Gear presenter James May to feature in Man Lab U.S., another spin on an original British format the looks into what it means to be a man.

Looks like the U.S. will be getting a lot more British personalities screening into its homes in the very near future.
