With the introduction of the new Gallardo LP 560-4 at the recent Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini has officially ended production of its Superleggera model. The lightweight Gallardo was only introduced one year prior but was always meant to be a limited edition model, and room was needed at the Sant' Agata plant for Lambo’s latest model.

The Superleggera, Italian for "lightweight", was a stripped-out race car built for the roads. The car weighed 154.4 pounds less than the standard Gallardo thanks to an extensive weight-saving program which included removing unnecessary comfort features from the cabin and replacing some items with carbon fiber.

The car also featured an upgraded engine with a revised ECU as well as a new lightweight exhaust system and throttle body. Final specs read 530 horsepower for output and just under 3,000 lb for the curb weight. It meant the car could accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of almost 200 mph.

The Superleggera is one of the most exciting cars of the decade and you can read all about it in our previous review by clicking here.
