The mixology for a seriously capable exotic is simple: take plenty of horsepower, add as much lightness as possible, give it a boutique name and a aerospace-inspired body and serve to anyone with $500,000 or so in their pocket. But even so, Mosler's newly announced Raptor is impressive.

Packing about 650 horsepower and weighing in the neighborhood of 2,500 pounds, Mosler's director of engineering J. Todd Wagner told Automobile the Raptor is built to beat the Pagani Huayra. Taking on the latest and greatest from one of Italy's most exotic brands is no small challenge, but Wagner thinks the Raptor is up to it.

Of course, you'll have to sacrifice some creature comforts and luxuries for the Raptor's brutal performance: even the newly released Photon, at a mere 550 horsepower, is more race car than street car, and comes with the attendant noise and harshness you'd expect. The Raptor, with more power than even the MT900 GTR XX (pictured), but no more weight, should be even less comfortable. Not that you'll be worried about comfort when you're in a car capable of setting track records wherever it goes.

We'll keep you posted as more details on the Raptor emerge.
