Jaguar has issued a nationwide recall on its 2010 model year XF and XK Coupe and Convertible due a potential fault with piping in the respective cars’ power steering systems.

Essentially, the power assist steering (PAS) pipes have been supplied with zinc-nickel plating that is susceptible to corrosion over an extended period of time. Should the pipes corrode, a situation known as pin-holding of the pipe may occur.

The consequence of this is that the PAS pipes may end up leaking pressurized power steering fluid into the engine bay. A substantial loss of the fluid will result in a failure of the power steering system as well as a potential fire due to the flammable nature of the fluid itself.

The number of affected vehicles stands at 6,085 and include those built from June 27, 2009 through to March 10, 2010.

Owners of the affected vehicles should take their cars in to their nearest Jaguar dealer, which will replace the power steering fluid pipes with parts manufactured to the correct corrosion protection specification as recommended by Jaguar as a free service.
