2009 Ferrari California
We now have more details on some of the upgrades, specifically the handling package, which is expected to be similar to the Handling Grand Turismo Evoluzione (HGTE) kit offered on the 599 GTB Fiorano and could possibly be called the ‘Handling Speciale’ package.
The new kit, according to Autocar, will help position the California closer to the more focused performance cars Ferrari is renowned for.
Key features of the package are likely to include more aggressive programming for the control software of the California’s magnetorheological dampers, and new lower friction seals for the adjustable-type dampers, which should translate to faster reaction times for changes in the road surface.
Also expect spring stiffening of around 15 percent and a new steering rack that’s said to be around 10 percent quicker than the one currently installed in the California.
While several sources have said Ferrari may be looking to introduce a turbocharged engine in its update for the California, the only changes expected for the car’s 4.3-liter V-8 are revised exhaust manifolds and some new ECU tuning. Output should be boosted by around 30 horsepower to a new peak of 483 horsepower. Torque, too, is expected to rise to 373 pound-feet.
