Next month’s 2010 Detroit Auto Show will see the world debuts of four new BMW vehicles, three of them headed to showrooms and one a preview of what the automaker has in store for the future.

The lineup includes the new Concept ActiveE all-electric 1-Series, the high-performance Z4 sDrive35is and a new six-cylinder version of the 7-Series. Also on show will be the 2011 BMW 535i Gran Turismo, a new six-cylinder version of the striking crossover vehicle.

We’ve already reported on the 535i GT’s new engine, the N55 series single-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six. It is the world’s first engine to combine turbocharging, direct fuel injection and fully variable Valvetronic valve management developed by BMW.

Peak output is a healthy 300 horsepower at 5,800rpm and 300 pound-feet of torque from a low 1,200rpm. When matched to the 535i GT’s 8-speed automatic, the engine returns a fuel economy of 26 mpg while still being able to briskly accelerate the car from 0-60 mph in about 6.2 seconds.

The 2011 BMW 535i GT will go on sale in spring 2010.
