You may have seen the 2010 Lincoln MKT covered during the 2009 round of auto shows here in the U.S. It is one of those vehicles that it seems you either appreciate or have issues with. Ford – Lincoln – Mercury designs are moving to cars that have that slab side look, something that harkens back to the 1962 Lincolns, and large grills, a look that you could see in the ‘40s designs.

The MKT is no exception; it has a front end that has been compared to that of the streamliner trains of the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s. The blast from the past doesn’t stop at the front; the back end has a space pod look like some of the concept cars of the 1950s. Now the designs from these periods are renown in history, so maybe the designers over at Ford are on to something. My opinion—it is nice to see more creativity in the designs than just a streamlined bubble and I particularly like the “v” detail on the back of the MKT.

The MKT is not only refreshing for Lincoln in the styling department, but also in the technology department. The MKT is available with heated and cooled seats, EcoBoostTM engine technology, active cruise control (laser guided), self park, dual glass moon roof, SYNC, cross traffic monitoring system and more. Yes, this isn’t your father’s Lincoln, even if the designs cues do go back that far.

There is a lot that can be said about this particular crossover, but let’s hit the highlights. The EcoBoostTM technology gives this all-wheel drive vehicle 355 horsepower and 350 lb.ft. of torque and an EPA estimated 16/22 mpg city/highway. The self-park feature is easier to use than the previous Lexus generations so that you know don’t have to be a programmer to run the interface. It has third row seating, though you might need to have short friends or lots of kids to get use out of it. Speaking of the third row, you really do need the review camera, without it looking out the back and reversing is about as easy as driving a Sherman tank.

Bottom line—the Lincoln MKT has styling you can’t miss (love or hate it), best in-class fuel efficiency and options that you normally see on cars that are ten to twenty thousand dollars more than the $49,200 loaded price. So if you are in need of three rows, all-wheel drive and first class options, then put the 2010 Lincoln MKT on your list of vehicles to check out.
