Meryl Streep IS Julia Child

Meryl Streep IS Julia Child

WWJD: What Would Julia Drive?

It's a question that's crossed our mind, since we're getting some household pressure to see this summer's ultimate chunky-chick flick. No, we haven't seen Julie & Julia yet--no offense, Amy Adams but we're into whole movies, not two half-movies. And we're a little insulted by your line, "I could write a blog." Not everyone is a writer, just like not everyone is a French chef or Oscar nominee. And frankly, Dan Aykroyd did a better Julia Child by our call.

Still, motor oil and a nice Bechamel are somewhat alike: both are better rich and thick, than weak and thin. So for rampant speculation today--it seems she may never have driven at all--here's what we picture Julia Child motoring in:

Citroen 2CV

Citroen 2CV

Citroen 2CV (Deux Chevaux): Because it's French, and because of its vague resemblance to snails, one of her favorite dishes.

2009 Ford Expedition

2009 Ford Expedition

Ford Expedition: Child was, as we politely say in the South, a big old girl. And it's great for hauling produce back from the fresh market.

2009 Honda Element

2009 Honda Element

Honda Element: The bouillion of crossovers. You can do a thousand different things with it, and yet it still tastes like a Honda. (Especially the switchgear: yum!)

2009 Land Rover Range Rover HSE

2009 Land Rover Range Rover HSE

Land Rover Range Rover: Because she championed game birds, and really, there's no better vehicle to take for a good pheasant hunt. And because she held an English degree, and this is as English as you can get, short of scurvy.

Dodge Polara

Dodge Polara

Dodge Polara: Child was the little old lady from Pasadena--born in California in 1912. Okay, "little" is fudging it for the six-foot Child, but the car cooked, she cooked. It's a parallel. Work with us.

Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Sang Bleu

Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Sang Bleu

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Veyron Grand Sport Sang Bleu: Because she earned it, it's also French, and it's literally named "blue blood," like the warmly hysterical accent she developed living in France.

Child would have been 97 years old last week. Since she loved it so much, here's the skit from Saturday Night Live that cemented her place in pop culture. Bon appetit!
