We already saw a sneak peek of the new Genesis coupe back in November when the car was caught at a market research venue alongside the Ford Mustang. Hyundai hopes the new Genesis coupe will provide performance and looks to compete with the famous pony car, and on paper it looks like a close fight. These latest images give us details and angles not seen before.
The power source for the Tiburon replacement is still up in the air, but speculation runs from a 2.0L turbocharged mill for the base model - to start under $20,000 - to a 300hp 3.8L V6 mid-range variant to a range-topping 'Tau' V8 producing as much as 380hp. Optional accoutrement are rumored to include a limited slip differential and Brembo brakes.
Aside from some obvious concessions to practicality - the heavily louvred carbon fiber hood is gone, for example - the production car looks to stick remarkably close to the concept's lines, right down to the funky rear window notch. The side rear brake duct is gone, and the front intake/air dam area is tamed a bit, but overall the car provides a very aggressive and sleek demeanor. The Mustang's blocky retro looks are aging, and the Genesis may be just the thing younger buyers are looking for.
Hyundai's performance coupe is not to be confused with the luxury sedan of the same name - they share some design cues and possibly some engines, but little else is the same. The large, luxurious sedan will be priced well above the coupe, and though performance should be swift with the 368hp 4.6L V8 under the hood, it is being pitched as a BMW 7-series or Mercedes E-class fighter, not a sports sedan.

The front looks like Lexus IS. But then again, Lexus copies other automakers as well. Can't blame Hyundai for it.

I wish the produciton version's front end was more dynamic like the concept car. They took a very aggressive concept car and toned it down too much. I know that they couldn't use all of the carbon fiber and keep the price down but they could have substituted plastic and still go tthe same looks.
Other people have said it but it does look a lot loke the G37. Not that it is a bad thing but I was hoping that they would be a little more original.

not bad at all...
If its released as RWD or AWD and they drop the proposed V8 from the Genesis in the front i think Hyundai could be onto a sales success....fair play to them...i would get one as it would be cometetively priced and more than likely a hoot to drive !!

oh yes, hyundai has managed to take one of the only original concepts theyve ever made and soften it out for production...... to show us the real inspiration. this thing is all infinity. disgusting really. its sad. the only car that hyundai has ever designed on their own, the tiberon, is going to be replaced by this. In concept form it looked great. Original, love it or hate it design, really young and fresh.
then they give you this? this, midlife crisis on a dime? they've pretty much guaranteed 3 things: they arent going to steal customers from the mustang, which we know was one of their objectives. They WONT be keeping any of their tiberon buyers, cause this thing isnt young, or fresh. and they wont be appealing to the crowd they need to: the cash strapped young male thrill seekers.
it looks too girly, too soft, too... old.

Hyundai was doing some marketing studies where they compared the Genesis Coupe and the Mustang. That's the reason why we said they may see the Mustang as a competitor.

Definately the front center intake is too small. They should have made it look larger kind of like they way they darkened the rest of the hood in the concept. The is250 has a closer sized ratio between the lower and center air intakes which makes it look more proportionate.
It should be more prominent to evoke a feeling of aggressiveness, strength, and character. Instead it looks underpowered, and tame.

ITS NOT REPLACING THE TIBURON
i have a relative in the Management division in S. Korea, they aren't replacing it. This is supposed to be a 'step up'. Besides, if you don't like it, don't look at it, and stop complaining geez. If you don't like it, you are the exact kind of audience they are not aiming for. They are aiming for people who needs a relatively well priced and fast vehicle for everyday use. I think the message got misunderstood.. ;( but im not hating on anyone, so peace!

Can i just say that Hyundai dont have a hope in hell if they are going to compete against the Mustang in the USA...regardless that it may be a better car...the Yanks love their muscle cars that are technologically inept too much...The Europeans will go for this, if it is marketed right...a Twin Turbo Diesel would also do wonders for sales there.
