Gumpert confirms Apollo supercar for U.S.

German supercar manufacturer Gumpert has announced it will be distributing its Apollo supercar in the United States via a partnership with Evolution MotorSport. The odd-looking but ferociously fast Apollo will be shipped to the U.S. for final assembly and performance testing in Tempe, Arizona.

The Apollo is a hand-built coupe and can be had in three different configurations: Street, GT or Race Car. Each is increasingly focused on pure performance, with the Race Car spec literally ready for the track. Evolution MotorSports founder Todd Zuccone says his firm only does, "insanely tuned luxury exotics," so the Apollo should fit right in.

Once final assembly and performance testing are complete, the car will be shipped from Tempe to Huntington Beach, California, where the exclusive dealer of the car in the U.S., European Touch, will offer the cars for sale.

Already the first Apollo is on the ground in the U.S., having cleared customs at the beginning of September.

At about 2,400lb (1,090kg), the Apollo's 4.2L Audi-sourced 650hp (480kW) and 627lb-ft (850Nm) V8 engine provides enough force to take the car to 60mph (96km/h) in just 3.0 seconds, 124mph (200km/h) in 8.9 seconds, and on to a top speed of 224mph (360km/h).
