The latest iteration of the Mitsubishi Evolution series, now in its tenth generation, is set to be officially launched at October’s Tokyo Motor Show but until then these new spy images gives us a preview of how the new car will look out on the road.
Though designers have retained most of the elements first previewed on the Evo X concept car, the final production model has been refined and now sports regular dual-projector headlights and single unit foglights in the front bumper replacing the led units seen on the concept. The last key change noticeable in the images is the adoption of ordinary plastic side view mirrors in place of the aero-style units on the concept.
There’s no official word on output but most agree that the familiar 2.0L turbo will be wound up to produce around 300hp, with drive sent to all four wheels via Mitsu’s Super All Wheel Control and a brand new dual-clutch gearbox. Click ahead to see our complete gallery.
It’s a handsome car - silly wing notwithstanding - and I am know about its performance but for the money I’d get something else. And so would most people I think…
looks a bit awkward, but excellent photos
This car’s functionality is seriously making me rethink my current track car (97 m3 gutted, caged, cams, etc), …Not sure about the looks, but not a big looks guy anyway, this thing will be passing folks left and right on the track
It just won’t compete with the STi despite their silly new hatchback. I would definitely take a hatchback over a Scion look alike .
you should be on crack if you think this car wont walk over the STI…. in looks handling and power this car will beat the STI hatchback
Rexer: You’ve got to be retarded if you think it’s a Scion look alike. The front looks very R34 Skyline-ish. It’ll be interesting to see the comparisons between the STI and Evo X, but 300 HP is definitely tough.
Rexter, what makes you think STI can beat Evo. Engine, chassis, gearbox all are a class above the Subby.
Btw, by look alone, wouldn’t you feel embarassed to drive the Kia-ish style around town.
The tail light looks a wee bit like the Mazda 3 & the front in line with the Aston Martin….. well overall looks OK - not too sure on the performance…..
I’ve always been a big fan of Subaru ( my first been Mazda- Dam Loyal) but seriously the new hatchback looks SHIT…. Come on Subaru…. what’s going on…. wake up Pleaseeee
I too agree that Rexers comment is simply idiotic……..
All past Evos have bettered the sti, this new one with all of it’s improvements, should be no different !
As far as the new sti is concerned however, from pics I’ve seen it dosn’t look as bad as the basic wrx hatch.
It features a different and better looking body kit and pumped out gaurds, we’ll have to just hang in there and wait for these to arrive and judge from there.
Pricing on these 2 is also something I’m hanging to find out….
@ Chammu — Toyota is what is ‘going on’ at Subaru. Their new butt-buddy
Thats just a new lancer with a turbo you morons
I had my mind set on buying the Evo 10 but I dont know any more> Im not a big fan on the changes> or atleast the new pics!! way to many changes> the rims are to small> dont see brembo breaks> hood looks diff> not dumped enough and most of all the side mirrors look like plastic sh!t.. think they better change there minds> because serious buyers like me have changer their minds about the “Prototype X” I hope thats just the base and you could upgrade it to look more like the prototype!! if anyone knows the serious HP let me know>> I have herd 300+ and 325Lbs or torque!! so to Mitsubishi>> your not any better then the new ugly STI>> if you make the changes like posted in the pics>> thats one ugly fast car!! its like going from a M3 to a base mazda 3!!
Officially, everyone at Motor Authority is hoping Mitsubishi offers a 6 speed manual gearbox as a no cost option.
Ray - that’s a given. Mitsu has already said they will.
I think I might have seen three of them on road trials here in LA. They were driving around the marina slightly off the CA 1 route one morning, completely covered up to hide the body design. But it was pretty obvious they were one of the 4-door rally sedans with the giant wings. Even the dash was covered up from what we could see thru the window. They had Michigan plates, so I’m assuming endurance testing.
I tried some friendly rev-sharing at a stop-light, but none of them wanted to share:(
Someone said it earlier - That’s just the new Lancer…. it better be or buying an EVO X will no longer be an option for me. Bring back the prototype!!!!
