To give you an idea of just how high this figure is, the RS6 will churn out more horses than the Corvette Z06, BMW M6, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Ferrari F430 Scuderia, Aston Martin DBS, Porsche 911 GT2, and even Mercedes’ epic bi-turbo V12 CL65 AMG.
While we’re always happy to see manufacturers pushing the limit, surely there comes a time when outright power figures get out of control. The previous RS6 wasn’t a slow car by any stretch of the imagination, but the new model will likely become the most practical supercar ever made. At least owners will have a full-time AWD system to help keep them out of trouble.

This is so stupid that I just don't have the words to express my disgust. I wonder at what BHP figure they'll stop the idiocy...

Power is good. But less weight is better.
The crazy weight kept the previous RS6 to be a serious track performer. The new car will be traditional Audi: heavy and nose heavy (60f-40r).
The Nordschleife and other tracks time were disappointing.
I wonder when Audi will figure out to fix these...

I hope Audi will not optimize the car for the Nordschleife. The usability will definitely suffer. I am looking for an every day car with crazy performance. The current RS6 is perfect for me and the new model will only get better I hope.
You will never see me on a race track with it. I think most buyers never visit a track.

I agree, this is a great concept that doesn't need track creds. People will buy these for the giggles they get when they step on the gas, kind of like an old muscle car.
But the question remains, how much power is enough?

Power is nothing without control, big power - fun factor high, heavy car - fun factor in the twisties not so much fun, heavy car and typical Audi brakes - scary factor. Great car for the wife I think.

Adding lightness and improving the car's balance would have been the best way forward, but that's not nearly as impressive as saying the car has 600hp.
Anything short of a carbon fiber body shell probably would have gotten the sound of crickets in the marketing room, and the public.
The general public just isn't educated well enough as drivers to care about the right things. This is true in more than automobiles, actually.
That said, holy crap that's a lot of horsepower :).
