It’s also thought that the £830,000 supercar was only delivered last week and is one of only a dozen such models in the UK. Onlookers claim the car was travelling in excess of 100mph before the driver lost control, hit a Vauxhall Astra driven by a seven-month pregnant woman, and spun three times before crashing into trees beside the road.
Local police have taken details, and the driver is currently being investigated for driving without due care and attention. Fortunately, no-one was injured during the accident. The Soni family run several car hire and property companies based in London.
Previous: We’ve seen plenty of smashed Ferrari Enzos but this is the first time we’ve across images of a wrecked Bugatti Veyron. Information is sketchy, but it’s thought that a pool of water on the road caused the AWD supercar to lose traction and then spin out of control, sending it head first into a ditch near Shepperton in the UK. Most of the cabin section and engine compartment look relatively undamaged, however, it’s hard to determine what internal damage to the drivetrain there is if any. Hopefully the driver got out unscathed.
According to the source, this is the first time a private customer has actually crashed a Veyron. Engineers reportedly destroyed two prototype examples during testing, which was part of the reason for the long delays during the vehicle’s development.

He used the key to turn the spoiler off and lower it to the ground so yeah he was definetly trying to speed and water would throw off his traction since he did not have a lot of downforce. So he probably hydroplaned till he crashed.
Mon Mar 5 2007 3:21 PM
Ciaran says
To hydroplane until he crashed, he would have to have been carrying a lot of speed down what, from the image looks like a 'b' road. Therefore the driver, like so many of this ilk, was clearly driving carelessly in the conditions.
Besides, the veyron is a misengineered and badly designed car anyway. Then again that's what you get when you get a team of marketing types to design the looks first, and then shoehorn the engine and mechanics in afterwards which is actually the only interesting thing about this car.

The key doesnt turn off the spoiler... it turns on the speed supporting equipment, ie, the better suspension tuning, the spoiler adjusts out farther the faster you go for added downforce and upon hard braking it deploys out enough to act as a wind brake of sorts to slow the car down faster....
"turning the key on" would only have caused that accident if it was attributed to going above the top speed of the non super sport or whatever they call it mode.

Cool. If I had one, I would probably crash it, but what the hell, at least I would be trying to 'use' it.
Cars (and bikes) should be driven to their potential - and if they are specifically designed for performance, hey, explore the boundaries! As one very great driver once said "you never really know where the limit is until you go past it." Here, here, say I.
If you hit standing water in anything you are liable to aquaplane, with tyres the width of this little baby this will just magnify the problem. But hey, shit happens and if you can afford to drive it you can probably afford to bend it.
Straighten it out and get it back out!

Do some homework before you start spouting off about the engineering. This car was built around the powerplant not marketing. I trust the design studio had their say but the Veyron was brought about by some massive engine research. I'm sure this car could get the best of the most trained driver! With out doubt this car was driven with great neglegence and sadly their was an innocent pregnant woman involved. The Veyron is a closed circuit or track car plain and simple!!!

It's part of the carbon-fible undertray and it even has a label with production codes and 'Bugatti' printed on it.

They tried to fix it but it never drove the same...and a VX is a hell of a lot simpler and less sophisticated than a Veyron. Sad to say I reckon that particular Veyron will never be the same and I pity the poor mug who buys it thinking he's got a (relative!) bargain, cos if this Prick crashed a mint one, can u imagine someone crashing one with a bent chassis...RIP matey.

to those of you who think the car is ugly: the car is built for purpose not for looks, do your homework. It's too bad the idiot wrecked it, much like the dolts who smashed up their Enzos. 253 is the top speed the comptuer in it allows it, definately good for speed but the F1 car that only reached 240 was a bt more everyday user friendly. However I applaud Bugatti for using the best and highest technology to make a very advanced state of the art car. Yeah it's expensive but when it's this good it's worth it. Though I don't see cars that get anything less than 20mpg at the most staying around for more than another 10-20 years due to gas drying up. Not to mention they can make electrics and hydrogen cars that could smoke this version of the Veyron.
