Spy Shots: 2008 Volvo XC70 Scores of images of Volvo’s upcoming XC70 have been taken during the cars testing phase outside Volvo’s factory in Sweden over the past several months. These latest images show the final version captured as the completed car came off the actual production line.

Unlike the current model, the new XC70 and its softer V70 cousin will be based on the more expensive Volvo S80 instead of the S60. The drivetrain has been lifted directly out of the larger S80 sedan, so expect the same turbo units as well as a 315hp V8 combined with AWD in a range topping model. Spy Shots: 2008 Volvo XC70 Even more images of Volvo’s XC70 crossover have surfaced, and this time the car is completely undisguised. The scans were taken from Swedish publication Teknikens Varld, and show the final version of the new vehicle, which isn’t due until the second half of next year. The bumpers and mud guards have grown in size over the outgoing model, while the taillights have been morphed to match those seen on the stylish C30 hatch.

Major changes over the previous car include the large rear brake lights that dominate the tail-end, and a much smoother look overall. The bumpers and side-cladding have also grown and covers much more of the car, while the front end styling is sharper with larger headlamps and a longer bonnet. Otherwise the car shares much in common with the S80 on which it’s based. Engine options will also be shared with the S80, which means there will be a range-topping model equipped with the 315hp V8 combined with AWD. Another option is an E85 powered 2L four-cylinder that will develop roughly 200hp and go head-to-head with Saab’s upcoming BioPower range of cars. Expect some diesel variants plus a possible 370hp performance R-version powered by a 4.4L V8. Follow the jump for more information plus full sized images. [Source: Auto Motor & Sport] Read More
