VizualTech Design Drops ALMS-Style Chevrolet Camaro

The Specialty Equipment Market Association trade show is home to some of the most outlandish concept and one-off vehicles of any given year, but the latest creation out of VizualTech's design studio is both way out there and a car that we'd like to see not just built, but raced, as it's intended as an American Le Mans Series GT car.

Though not designed specifically for the SEMA show, its timing at just a week before the Las Vegas tuner market event is anything but coincidental. Far from the aesthetically questionable and functionally crippled cars that constitute many of the entries in that show's appearance list, however, the rendered ALMS Camaro looks every inch the real-deal racer. With a super-low stance made possible by pushing the wheels out and slamming the car's body down between them, the car also gets a serious aero treatment, with a high rear-mounted wing, huge fender vents front and rear and a big diffuser poking out the back. The low profile front lip spoiler and ground-scraping side skirts also hint at a well-sculpted underbody tray, while the enormous wheels and tires show that grip is among the key concerns of the designer as well. All of this adds up to one impressive rendering and a possible direction for the car should American motorsports get back on the priority list over at GM's dormant High Performance Vehicle Operations (HPVO) program. Until then, however, the Camaro SS will likely remain the hottest factory variant of the Camaro--not that its 422 horsepower V-8 or raucous performance and in-your-face styling are anything to sniff at. Modern day Volvo P1800 envisaged by Koenigsegg engineer Koenigsegg and Volvo may be worlds apart in terms of the cars they build, but the two companies do have one thing in common - engineer and petrol head Mattias Vöx. The Koenigsegg engineer shares a love for both marques, and his work with the Swedish supercar company has allowed him to take on some dream projects of his own, including a SEMA appearance in 2006 for his 1967 Volvo Amazon station wagon that was cranked up to 600hp (448kW).

Vöx is now taking on a new challenge, this time with another Volvo to modify and mold into a formidable driving machine. Taking the famous P1800, one of Volvo's first sports cars, Vöx will be updating it to be a little more modern than the original 1960s version. To accomplish this, he has also enlisted the help of Swedish design firm Vizualtech, which has already created a number of computer generated renderings depicting the new custom car. While Vizualtech will preserve the general lines of the classic Volvo P1800, there will be some changes to accommodate the modern components Vöx plans to install. These include larger wheel housings and a 70mm extension to the front of the car. These changes should help when Vöx drops a new V8 engine sourced from Volvo’s XC90 SUV into the engine bay. Matched to a six-speed manual, the engine will also have a turbocharger fitted to dial up power levels to around the 600hp (448kW) mark. Other performance mods planned for the car include a rear-diffuser, a flat underside, and a slightly redesigned front-end to aid air flow. Construction is currently underway, and while there’s no date scheduled for an unveiling hopefully we'll be seeing it at a motoring event sometime soon.Mattias Vöx Volvo P1800 rendered by Vizualtech Read More

Vizualtech pays homage to the BMW 2002 with new 3D renderings Vizualtech, a Swedish design and engineering firm that specializes in constructing virtual 3D models of cars and boats, has just released a new set of images that pay homage to the classic 1960's BMW 2002 - one of the cars that put the German carmaker in the limelight as a manufacturer of sports sedans.

The renderings bring the classic two-door BMW 2002 to life and highlight the high esteem that the original model was held in, often described by motoring journals of the time as one of the best handling and riding sedans on the market.

The 2002 was part of BMW's 'New Class' range of vehicles, and was preceded by other lauded models such as the 2000 and the 1600, both of which were some of the first vehicles that BMW imported to the burgeoning U.S. market. The 2002 was also the first car that BMW put a turbo in, with the introduction of the 2002 Turbo at 1973's Frankfurt Motor Show. In turbo guise, the 2002 model was outputting around 170hp (125kW) and 240 Nm of torque - impressive figures for that period. Other variants of the 2002 included the 120hp 2002ti, and the more performance oriented 130hp 2002tii, which was capable of reaching up to 115mph if taken flat out. The 2002 was also offered as a three-door touring model, although most enthusiasts would agree that the two-door coupe was the more handsome car of the pair. Other work from Vizualtech includes a rendering of this futuristic hot-rod inspired car, as well as a Volvo C30 racer and a stunning Dodge Challenger GT Racer.Vizualtech BMW 2002 3D renderings Read More
  • Vizualtech envisages future of hot-rodding

Vizualtech envisages future of hot-rodding Vizualtech, a Swedish design and engineering firm that specializes in constructing virtual 3D models of cars and boats, has just released a new set of images of a futuristic hot-rod. The name Delithium is a portmanteau of “delirium” and “lithium” and as indicated by this name the vehicle is capable of lightning quick speeds with zero emissions. Vizualtech has designed a vehicle with similar proportions to an F1 car. It is characterized by four open wheels and a seating position in the middle of its wheelbase. The simple interior of the Delithium is a combination of function and styling refinement. A digital display provides information about the car’s electric drive system, while the driver has full control of the powertrain thanks to a seven-speed paddle-shift operated gearbox. The powertrain can either be lithium-ion powered electric motor with more than 390hp (290kW) and 373lb-ft (470Nm) of torque on tap, or a petrol V8 mated to a compact electric motor in a hybrid configuration. With either system on board, Vizualtech predicts its hot-rod would be capable of top speeds in excess of 280km/h and 0-100km/h sprint times below four seconds.Vizualtech Delithium hot-rod Read More
  • Volvo C30 ‘Racer’ envisaged by Sweden’s Vizualtech

Volvo C30 ‘Racer’ envisaged by Sweden’s Vizualtech Vizualtech, a Swedish design firm that specializes in constructing virtual 3D models of cars and boats, has just released a new set of images of a race-inspired Volvo C30 hatch. The focus when designing the car was to create something that could compete in the DTM touring car series or possibly a Le Mans endurance race.

Oversized side sills, a chunky rear diffuser and a huge rear spoiler all give the usually stylish but mundane Volvo C30 a very aggressive look. Large slats in the rear-wheel arches should help to cool the brakes down, while the front spoiler should improve downforce and give the car greatly improved handling if it were ever...
