Video: Mutec Shows Off Armored Rolls-Royce Phantom

As an official Rolls-Royce coachbuilder, Mutec features world class craftsmanship with modifications that look like they came straight from the factory. One of the German-based coachbuilder’s most important modified vehicles is the armored version of the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Engineered to VR7 level, the ‘Phantom Armored’ is virtually indistinguishable from the standard version, inside and out. One of the German-based coachbuilder’s most important modified vehicles is the armored version of the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Engineered to VR7 level, the ‘Phantom Armored’ is virtually indistinguishable from the standard version, inside and out. The car features advanced fiber composites and special purpose steel to provide protection for the bodywork, while the glazed area is constructed from sheets of thickened glass. In addition, a polycarbonate layer is fitted to the inside for extra passenger protection. To be certified for VR7 protection, the car must be independently tested to withstand armor-piercing bullets and underbody grenade resistance. The Phantom’s aluminum spaceframe chassis and suspension components have been strengthened to cope with the additional weight of the modifications. However, the powertrain remains unchanged, providing 453-horsepower and a phenomenal 531-pound-feet of torque. Rolls-Royce builds the original Phantom, which is then shipped off-site to a coachbuilder for modification. The growing Middle East market was one of the first to receive this car. This latest video shows the vigorous testing that went into developing the Phantom Armored. [Mutec]  Read More

Video: MINI John Cooper Works Cabrio Hits Rallye Monte Carlo

Rally racing isn't especially popular here in the U.S., but MINIs sure are, and it's always exciting to see a capable car put to use in a historical context. Today, MINI brings us the Rallye Monte Carlo in the JCW MINI Cabrio at the hands of rally greats Rauno Aaltonen and Paddy Hopkirk.

The video is certainly a major upgrade from the last batch of videos out of MINI, featuring a creepy yet attractive pair of twins somehow advertising the upcoming MINI Coupe and Roadster, unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.

It's Friday, and for about half the country, it's after 5 p.m., so sit back, kick your feet up, and enjoy the video.

Video: Porsche Puts Panamera In Context

We've all heard it by now: Porsche purists moaning about the 2010 Porsche Panamera (and still carrying on about the Cayenne) and its non-sports-car nature destroying the brand; realists saying the Panamera is sure to sell in volumes that dwarf the pure sports cars, just like the Cayenne does. But Porsche has a third perspective on the matter, one that bridges the two camps.

It's not the first time Porsche has made the argument that the Panamera is 100% Porsche, but the visual representation of past and present models alongside each other does serve to illustrate it particularly well. It also shows that, like many other modern cars, the...

It also shows that, like many other modern cars, the Panamera is simply huge. Final output of the engine is 470 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, just slotting in beneath the the 510-horsepower DBS flagship. That's good enough to get the 0-62 mph dash completed in 5.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 188 mph. It's also good enough to make the Rapide look every bit as fun as it is gorgeous in the video below. Read More

    Video: 2011 Bentley Mulsanne

With the all-new 2011 Bentley Mulsanne, there's reason to believe that Bentley has a little grudge against its former sibling Rolls-Royce. The Mulsanne had its world debut at the 2009 Pebble Beach Concours back in August, and Bentley makes no veiled references to challenging Rolls-Royce's Phantom with the new sedan. They're saying it outright, calling the Mulsanne the "pinnacle" of luxury cars.

With a 505-horsepower and a massive 752-pound-feet of torque churning out from its twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V-8 engine, an expected of pricetag of more than $300,000, and leather hide and wood trim as far as the eye can see, we have little reason...

Named for the 90-degree turn at Le Mans, the Mulsanne arrives in the middle of next year, however, you can get a feel for the car and decide whether it has what it takes to topple the Rolls-Royce Phantom in this latest official video. Video: 2010 Saab 9-5 Hits The Road

The Saab 9-5 is long overdue for an overhaul, with the basic mechanical underpinnings in the current model first hitting streets as far back as 1997. A totally redesigned model was expected to make an appearance last year but its release was pushed back due to limited resources at Saab and the introduction of the facelifted 9-3, not to mention the company’s then-ongoing ownership limbo.

The car shows a clear resurgence of Saab's past design traits, however, this is married to a modern, sleek profile. Until now, we have only seen still images of the car but this latest video clip shows us what the new 9-5 will look like out on the road. Production will take place at the end of this year at Saab’s home plant in Trollhattan, with first sales tipped to start in early 2010. Read More
