Nurburgring grandstand named after Sebastian Vettel After winning at Monza last year, Sebastian Vettel's former school changed its name to honour the young German. Now, the 21-year-old's arrival at his home grand prix at the Nurburgring next month as a three time race winner, most recently in dominant style at Silverstone, will reveal a similar tribute.

According to German reports, the Nurburgring is offering spectators a 'Sebastian Vettel' GP package, including a weekend pass to sit in the newly-renamed Sebastian Vettel grandstand - formerly known simply as T6.

  • F1 title comes alive at British GP

F1 title comes alive at British GP A closely fought British GP at Silverstone today marked what possibly could be the last F1 race ever held at the famous circuit. Conditions were warm and in the end there was one clear winner. The toast of Silverstone last year, however, McLaren, continued its dismal season, which plummeted to new depths following today’s events.

Sebastian Vettel is now 25 points behind Brawn's Button with nine races to go, after his and Mark Webber's Red Bulls were utterly dominant at Silverstone.

Sebastian Vettel is now 25 points behind Brawn's Button with nine races to go, after his and Mark Webber's Red Bulls were utterly dominant at Silverstone. "To be here today and to have a car which showed a clean pair of heels to everyone was very special," said the RB5's designer Adrian Newey, who collected the constructors' trophy from the podium. Button's sixth place finish, from his season-worst starting position of sixth, was also the Briton's worst result of his otherwise almost seamless 2009 campaign so far. "We've definitely got problems with the car; the car's not performing as we'd hoped," said team boss Ross Brawn just before the 60-lap British grand prix. "If you look at Jenson's position you'd have to say we've dropped back and it looks as if Red Bull has made some progress." Rubens Barrichello, on the lowest step of the podium, said he was relieved to get through the weekend after receiving treatment for back pain from Toyota's Ricardo Ceccarelli and Toro Rosso physios. Lewis Hamilton would have won no fans in the stewards' office with his post-race doughnut on the slowing down lap, but it was a gesture of appeasement to the partisan crowd after finishing sixteenth. Button remains on top of the points tally with 64 points, and is followed by Brawn team mate Rubens Barrichello on 41 points and today’s winner Sebastian Vettel on 39 points. Last year’s champion, Lewis Hamilton, remains in 11th spot with just nine points. Read More
  • Toyota and Red Bull threaten F1 exit over 2010 rule changes

Toyota and Red Bull threaten F1 exit over 2010 rule changes Red Bull has followed Toyota in declaring that it will not enter next year's world championship under the current regulations. Toyota's team president John Howett made the threat this weekend in Barcelona, as other teams including Ferrari and BMW also openly baulk at the governance of the sport by Max Mosley and his plans for voluntary budget caps.

"Conditions at the moment are not so, that we would enter a team for next year," Red Bull team owner Dietrich Mateschitz, at the Spanish grand prix this weekend, said in an interview that will be published by Austria's Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper on Monday.

"Conditions at the moment are not so, that we would enter a team for next year," Red Bull team owner Dietrich Mateschitz, at the Spanish grand prix this weekend, said in an interview that will be published by Austria's Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper on Monday. The billionaire suggested that the other "manufacturer teams" will also not take part. "Of the teams now, only two or three will remain," Mateschitz added. The big-spending teams are furious that they have been pushed into a corner to accept Max Mosley's vision for a 40m pounds sterling spending limit next year. However, McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh said after a two-hour meeting of the FOTA teams on Sunday that public threats about not meeting the deadline are "not helpful". The FIA's deadline for 2010 entries is May 29. It is expected that, depending on the outcome of a meeting with Mosley in London next week, FOTA could announce a sweeping boycott of the May 29 deadline. Read More

  • Hyundai announces Rhys Millen Racing Red Bull Formula Drift team

Hyundai announces Rhys Millen Racing Red Bull Formula Drift team The past several months have been poor ones for the world of motorsports, with carmakers pulling out of such diverse venues as Formula 1 and rally racing. But Hyundai is bucking the trend today, announcing the launch of its Rhys Millen Racing Red Bull Formula Drift team.

The team will compete in the Formula Drift Professional Drifting Championship, Redline Time Attack series and perhaps most impressively, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

“Today’s announcement puts the Genesis Coupe into three great motorsports series,” said John Krafcik, acting president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America. “We like to refer to... The past several months have been poor ones for the world of motorsports, with carmakers pulling out of such diverse venues as Formula 1 and rally racing. “We like to refer to the Genesis Coupe as the sinister sibling to the North American Car of the Year, the Genesis sedan and we look forward to Rhys harnessing every ounce of energy in the Coupe as he campaigns it.” The car itself is built around a Genesis chassis stripped to the bare metal and then built up with a completely carbon fiber body, much like the 'Art of Speed' car from SEMA 2008. Target curb weight for the finished car is 2,400lb - about 33% lighter than the production car. Inside, the car is all business, with a special roll cage and fire protection system taking prominent position in the cabin. A fully adjustable KW suspension makes for fine-tuning capability, while RMR custom-fabricated front and rear control arms offer exactly the right balance of grip and slip for racing and drifting alike. The engine and turbo kit take the standard 3.8L naturally aspirated V8 and stroke it to 4.1L and add a Turbonetics turbocharger, generating an estimated 550hp and 520lb-ft of torque - solid by any standards, and about 250% of the base 2.0T's output. Wrapping up the package is a set of 18in wheels wrapped in Toyo Poxes T1R tires, a signature Red Bull blue/silver/unpainted carbon fiber paint scheme and sponsor logos.Hyundai Genesis Rhys Millen Racing Red Bull drift car Read More
