Bold claims but when you consider some of the modifications such as the handcrafted gun cabinet, refrigerator, and Overfinch’s typical attention to even the finest of details, then it becomes not too hard to believe those claims. For its latest work, Overfinch has teamed up with Holland & Holland, a manufacturer of some of the world's finest sporting guns. The goal for designers was to create the ultimate all purpose, all season, luxury off-roader, while also keeping a quintessentially English take on luxury motoring. Starting with either the supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 model or the turbodiesel V-8, Overfinch sets about upgrading the SUVs with a completely bespoke interior and exterior. Some of the modifications include special wood veneers for the dashboard, consoles and door inserts, individually numbered build plaque hand-made by Holland & Holland's own gun engravers, a custom four-seater layout and a new rear console with an integrated refrigerator and crystal ware, a handcrafted gun and drinks cabinet, and four new custom exterior colors. To further distinguish the vehicles, Overfinch has added 20-inch wheels (22-inch wheels are optional) and newly designed exhaust tips. Only 100 Holland & Holland Range Rovers will be built each year, with pricing starting at £120,894 (approximately $191,737) for customers outside the UK. Read More

It's no surprise that expensive rides can cost a lot at the showroom, but a new study by Insure.com drops the other shoe on costs of ownership for the finest, most capable vehicles on the planet. Namely, it's going to cost you a lot to insure some of the best vehicles on the road against accidents, liability, and acts of God. According to the site, some of the most expensive vehicles to insure include the 2009 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the 2009 HUMMER H2, and the 2009 Land Rover Range Rover. In particular, the Benz G-Class has costly parts, the Web site says, while the H2 takes on more than its fair share in damage claims because it pummels the other car into sheetmetal submission. The Range Rover? A big target for thieves, no surprise. Along with the British luxo-ute, the list also includes several more of the biggest, priciest scene-stealing SUVs that tend to be popular in higher-theft urban areas, including the Cadillac Escalade, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Infiniti QX56, and Lexus LX 570. Also on the list? The 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, likely because its two-mode hybrid system is difficult and expensive to repair or replace. To compile the list, the site based calculations around a 40-year-old man with a 12-mile commute daily, then averaged out insurance costs nationwide as quoted by several insurers. Insure.com estimates an annual insurance tab of $2,088 for the Mercedes G-Class. But at least you'll feel safe and secure in any of these if the worst happens--six of ten SUVs that cost the least to insure are 2009 IIHS Top Safety Picks. The results of the study ranked as follows, with average insurance costs in dollars: 1 $2,088 Mercedes-Benz G-Class 2 $1,912 Hummer H2 3 $1,603 Land Rover Range Rover 4 $1,584 BMW X6 5 $1,553 Cadillac Escalade 6 $1,472 Laxus LX 570 7 $1,457 Land Rover Range Rover Sport 8 $1,392 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class 9 $1,290 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid 10 $1,389 Infiniti QX56 Via: TheCarConnection2010 Range Rover facelift Read More

Dynamically designed and arrestingly attractive, Land Rover's LRX concept has won much praise on the show-car circuit and now we have the first tentative confirmation that a hybrid version of the vehicle will enter production. The UK Government also announced in March that a grant offer of up to £27 million ($44 million) would be made available to Land Rover for the production of an all-new car, and now the hybrid model is expected to go live with a production version of the Land-e Concept's electric/petrol drivetrain - as we reported about two years ago. The LRX's hybrid powertrain should be able to run in electric-only, petrol only and hybrid drive modes. The complete cost of the project is estimated at around the £400 million ($650 million) mark. It will take another two years to bring the advanced hybrid system to market, however. In the mean time, stop-start and brake-energy regeneration will be launched across the Land Rover lineup, reports AutoExpress. Land Rover’s need for a smaller and more fuel-efficient vehicle means both the standard LRX and its hybrid twin will be core to the lineup. The company confirmed that the new LRX will carry the Range Rover title when it confirmed the car for production several months ago. The LRX Concept was first revealed at last year’s Detroit Auto Show and featured a new 2.0L diesel-hybrid powertrain, which when running on bio-diesel achieves a fuel-economy of 60mpg (4.7L/100km) and a correspondingly low carbon emissions rating of 120g of CO2 per km. Expect to see some version of this eventually feature in the production version of the LRX. Other elements of the concept vehicle that could make production include carbon-fiber panels and engine stop-start systems. Production will be handled at Land Rover’s Halewood facility in the UK, which employs about 2,000 people and is currently responsible for the LR2 (Freelander 2) and the Jaguar X-Type.Land Rover LRX ConceptRange Rover LRX compact SUV Read More

Now, a new tuner by the name of Revere London is trying to get in on the luxury tuning action, and to prove that it can take on the already established houses it has just unveiled its first project - a heavily modified Range Rover Sport. A number of modifications are available for the Range Rover Sport, including an aggressive new bodykit that gives the SUV some edge over the standard model. Up front, there is a custom Revere London front bumper that gives the appearance that the vehicle is sitting lower to the ground. There is also a new front grille, as well as color-coded side vents. At the rear, a custom bumper with tailpipe box replacements is also available. Other cosmetic modifications offered are varying and comprehensive - for example, customers can choose to have the door handles color-matched with the rest of the body, or have the 'Range Rover' letters themselves painted or removed completely. In terms of engine upgrades, there are a number of options available depending on what engine is in the particular model. ECU reprogramming for the range-topping 4.2L Supercharged V8 engine results in a lift to power of 410hp (305kW), and coupled with custom exhaust kits, upgraded Brembo brakes and new suspension components the Revere London Range Rover Sport should prove to be a little more fun than the standard model. Finally, a raft of interior modifications is available, including high-quality leather upholstery and Alcantara lined steering wheels. Audio and visual upgrades are also available, along with items like custom umbrella holders and umbrellas. Read More
