Preview: Abt Sportsline turns up the wick on Audi's Q7 V12 oil burner to 560hp Not much is yet known about Abt Sportsline's latest take on the Audi Q7 V12 TDI, but the numbers are enough to pique any enthusiast's interest: 560hp (412kW), 886lb-ft (1,200Nm) of torque and sports-car-like 0-62mph (100km/h) times of just 5.5 seconds.

How Abt boosted the big V12 diesel from its 500hp (373kW), 738lb-ft (1,000Nm) torque baseline to the new and improved status is still a secret, but with that much straight-line juice, it'll be sure to have some suspension and wheel/tire enhancements to help deliver a sportier experience in the curvy bits too.

Wheels up to 22in will be available with the new package, though the remaining details of the tuning kit will have to wait for the full reveal. For now, the photo above, provided by Abt and showing a lightly photo-edited version of the standard Q7 V12 TDI, is the only preview of the car available. Unfortunately for Americans, however, it won't really matter what the final version looks like, the beastly Q7 isn't available as Audi only sells the efficient but decidedly more tame Q7 3.0L V6 TDI in the States.2010 Audi Q7 V12 TDI2010 Audi Q7 SUV Read More

Audi ups the style of Q7 SUV with latest facelift The Audi Q7 is certainly starting to show its age against its prime rivals like the BMW X5, Mercedes Benz ML and the Porsche Cayenne, all of which have either undergone a complete redesign or facelift in the recent past. The Q7, however, has barely changed since its market introduction back in 2006.

That’s all set to change as Audi has unveiled a new version of the Q7, which has been given an update for the 2010 model year. Changes have taken place throughout the vehicle, with enhancements to the exterior, cabin and powertrain lineup all included in the update.

It will be hard to distinguish the facelifted model from the older series as the only exterior updates are new headlights and LED daytime running lights, full LED tail-lamps, two-tone side mirrors, new wheels, and slightly revised bumpers. Inside, there is new wood trim and ambient lighter for the doors. The SUV also picks up Audi’s third-generation MMI navigation system with voice-activation and SIRIUS support. The changes to the powertrain lineup are even more subtle but the big news it the introduction of a Q7 TDI clean diesel. The efficient oil-burner is clean, quiet and, for a big SUV, is relatively fast. Furthermore, fuel economy on the highway can reach up to 25mpg and 17mpg in the city, which means Q7 TDI has a theoretical range of more than 600 miles on a single tank. Healthy power figures mean the 3.0L V6 diesel Q7 won't be a slouch - the Q7 TDI achieves 225hp and 406lb-ft of torque, enough to give the car a towing capacity of almost three tons (6,600 pounds) and a 0-60mph time of 8.5 seconds. The rest of the lineup is filled up by the 280hp and 266lb-ft 3.6L FSI V6, which will send the Q7 from 0-60mph in 8.2 seconds and returns fuel economy of 14mpg in the city and 20mpg on the highway, and the 350hp and 325lb-ft 4.2L V8 FSI model. Easily the quickest of the pack, the V8 will send the Q7 from 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds and returns fuel economy of 13mpg in the city and 18mpg on the highway.2010 Audi Q7 SUV Read More

Inside, you can expect to find 12-way heated front seats, seven-passenger seating, dual-zone climate control, a power tailgate and numerous other features, although when fully-loaded we wouldn't be surprised if the new Q7 was closer to $70,000 in price. The new Q7 TDI also features one of the world's cleanest diesel systems, with the car certified as meeting emissions regulations in all 50 U.S. states, including California's ULEV2 (Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle) standards. In fact, Audi is so keen on the clean diesel technology that it’s touting it "as an immediate answer to America's energy challenges". The clean diesel technology found in the 2009 Q7 TDI provides 30% better fuel economy than petrol engines of similar size. The Q7 TDI also gets an EPA-rated 17 mpg in city driving and combined fuel economy of 20 mpg. Meanwhile, healthy torque figures mean the new diesel-powered Q7 won't be a slouch around town - the Q7 TDI achieves 505Nm of torque (406lb-ft), enough to give the car a towing capacity of almost three tons (6,600 pounds). The material has been shaped to fit the Audi Q7 and R8, and can be applied to every external panel on the car. Replacing a car’s body panels with lighter carbon-fiber is a simple way to increase the performance of a vehicle without having to touch any of the mechanicals. However, adding this new adhesive film on top of the body panels will have no effect on performance. The matt carbon film is said to be virtually indistinguishable from real carbon-fiber, right down to the touch and feel, and it can also be produced in other colors. If the option proves popular, ABT Sportsline plans to expand it to the Audi A4 and TT as well.ABT Sportsline carbon-fiber for the Audi Q7 and R8 Read More

Report: Audi will not sell the Q7 V12 TDI in U.S. The Audi Q7 V12 TDI was first revealed in production trim at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year but withheld key information, such as when the vehicle would eventually go on sale and what its specifications would look like, until last month. The new Q7 will be the world’s first passenger vehicle powered by a V12 TDI engine, and will go on sale at the end of the year, complete with a 500hp (368kW) and 737lb-ft (1,000Nm) output. The Audi Q7 V12 TDI was first revealed in production trim at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year but withheld key information, such as when the vehicle would eventually go on sale and what its specifications would look like, until last month. Now Audi has reportedly revealed that the Q7 V12 TDI will not be coming to America. The new Q7 will be the world’s first passenger vehicle powered by a V12 TDI engine, and will go on sale at the end of the year, complete with a 500hp (368kW) and 737lb-ft (1,000Nm) output. Americans, however will have to make do with the 3.0L variant of the Q7, reports Car and Driver. The decision to snuff the brawny SUV for the U.S. market was based on sales volume projections and expected demand - both of which were very low. Europe, on the other hand, can't get enough diesel engines in general, and is expected to love the big V12 TDI. It's easy to understand why. On demand, the 6.0L forced-induction V12 catapults the Q7 from 0-100km/h (62mph) in 5.5 seconds and effortlessly takes it up to its electronically controlled top speed of 250km/h (155mph). Even more impressive is its maximum torque: between 1,750 rpm and 3,250 rpm the V12 TDI has a constant 737lb-ft (1,000Nm) on tap. Despite the impressive performance numbers, on average, the big SUV requires just 11.3L of diesel per 100 km (20.8mpg). Key to its frugality is a redeveloped common rail injection system and fuel pressurized at up to 2,000bar. The SUV rides on an aluminum chassis with a double wishbone suspension set-up up front and Audi’s adaptive air suspension and electronically controlled shock absorbers with dynamic roll stabilization. The V12 Q7 also gets optional 21in wheels housing standard 20in carbon-ceramic brake discs (20in wheels and steel brakes are fitted as standard). The front disks are gripped by eight-piston brake calipers, while the rear brakes function with four pistons each. Visually, the Q7 V12 TDI can be distinguished from lesser models by its wider wheel housings, up 30mm in the front and 26mm in the back. Other unique features include darkened tail lights, dual oval exhausts, steel underbody protector and an optional panoramic sunroof. Inside, passengers are treated with aluminum inserts and velour carpet, carbon and aluminum trim and stainless steel pedals. Verano leather covers the electrically adjustable sport seats, the center armrest and the door inserts. The front and rear seats can be heated, while a special lighting package provides ambient mood lighting. Complementing the engine transplant is a sportier chassis, custom bodykit and more extensive standard equipment list. Production of the new model will be handled by Audi’s quattro subsidiary and the first cars will roll onto showroom floors at the end of the year. Audi is yet to reveal full pricing details but in Germany the new model will sell for €130,600, or approximately US$177,200, though it won't be coming to the U.S.2010 Audi Q7 V12 TDI Read More
