Renault expands Megane lineup with stylish Estate wagon Renault has released more details on its new Megane Estate wagon, which made its world debut back in March at the Geneva Motor Show and is set to go on sale in Europe later this month. The new Estate distinguishes itself from the standard Megane hatch with its greater carrying capacity, extended wheelbase and longer rear overhang.

The Megane Estate features identical frontal styling to that of the hatchback version, however the side and rear have been modified to make the car's longer appearance look more in proportion. Trunk space measures in at 524L but fold down the rear seats and this expands by an additional 119L.

Trunk space measures in at 524L but fold down the rear seats and this expands by an additional 119L. In terms of engines, the Estate comes with a full range of engine choices, including both petrol and diesel powerplants. The petrol engine line-up comprises five powertrains, including the new TCe 130 engine which is available from launch. Economy is the focus of this 1.4L unit, and Renault claims that it "boasts the torque of a 2L engine and the power of a 1.8, yet its CO2 emissions are less than those of a 1.6." The Megane Estate can also be ordered with 100hp (75kW) and 110hp (82kW) 1.6L petrol engines that drive through manual gearboxes, while a 2.0L petrol engine mated to an automatic transmission is also available. The diesels are available in a number of different guises - the 1.5 litre dCi engine comes in a choice of three power outputs, with or without a particulate filter (dCi 86, dCi 106 and dCi 110 FAP). All the diesel engines feature relatively low levels of carbon emissions (just 118g/km for the dCi 86 and 120g/km for the dCi 106) and should prove popular with those watching their carbon footprints. The diesel engine range is topped by the 2.0 dCi which is available in a choice of power outputs, ranging from 140hp (104kW) to 160hp (120kW).2009 Renault Megane hatch2010 Renault Megane Sports Tourer2010 Renault Megane Sport Tourer wagon Read More

The end result: you can get on track in a Clio Cup car for just €30 ($38.50). Existing Renault Sport owners can drive during the track days as well, while those who don't own an RS vehicle can rent rides, including the Megane R26.R hatch, as part of a coached lapping opportunity. Sixteen track days are scheduled, plus an additional four Driving Tuition Days. The tuition days offer a chance not just to drive the open track, but to learn and improve your skills. There's even a chance to drive a Formula Renault 2.0. One of the four days is reserved for women only, to help draw in participation from females. Six additional dates are scheduled to offer a chance to see the Renault-Alpine plant in Dieppe, where Renault Sport's motoring tradition was founded. Famed circuits on the track schedule include Brands Hatch in the UK, Spa-Francorchamps and Le Mans in France, and Zolder in Belgium, among many others.Renault Megane R26.R Read More

Renault officially lifts the curtain on the Megane RS Ever since the unveiling of the Megane Trophy race car late last year, Megane fans have been eagerly awaiting to see what Renault engineers have in store for the watered down road-going version. Today, the all-new 2010 Megane RS has been revealed. The car is the successor to the popular Megane R26 and it is set to go on sale in Europe next month.

While the engine lineup in the standard Megane Coupe mirrors that of the five-door hatch, the new Megane RS features a high-performance 2.0L turbocharged unit developing 250hp (186kW) and 250lb-ft (340Nm) of torque from 3,000rpm - 80% of max torque is available from as low as 1,900rpm, however,... Drive is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual as standard. The suspension setup is the same as the previous R26 model, including the separate steering and suspension axes for improved handling and resistance to torque and bump steer. Like its predecessor, the Megane RS is also available with a choice of two chassis: standard or Cup, the latter coming with a limited-slip diff for even better handling. Though ESP is standard in the RS to aid in safety ratings, it can be fully disconnected, allowing the car to respond to driver inputs in a pure and raw manner. The new Megane RS is capable of completing the 0-62mph (100km/h) sprint in less than six seconds and a top speed of around 150mph. Confirmed via earlier spy shots are Brembo brake calipers and a central mounted exhaust system. Other features include an aggressively styled bodykit with a front splitter modeled on the R28 Renault Formula 1 car, a central exhaust tailpipe and 18in forged alloy wheels. Inside, the car gets sporty Recaro bucket seats, leather trim, aluminum pedals, plus Renaultsport badging throughout the cabin.2009 Renault Megane Coupe2010 Renault Megane Sport Coupe spy shots2010 Renault Megane RS2010 Renault Megane RS Read More
  • Spy shots: Renault Megane Grandtour with less camo

Spy shots: Renault Megane Grandtour with less camo Renault presented the first official images and details for its all-new 2009 Megane late last year but only information about the five-door Hatchback model and new Coupe was released. Also in the works are a new Sedan, high-performance Coupe, and this latest ‘Grandtour’ or ‘Kombi’ wagon, all of which are expected to arrive over the course of the year.

We’ve already seen a preview of the high-performance coupe in the form of the 2008 Megane Coupe Concept from the Geneva Motor Show last year, and now we can have an early look at prototypes for the upcoming wagon thanks to these latest spy shots. We also have several leaked images of the vehicle that were sourced from a patents office in Europe. As expected, the wagon will essentially be the five-door hatch but with a stretched wheelbase for extra storage inside. The car should also feature its own unique taillamps, and its roof will also be slightly taller than the hatch. The engine lineup should mirror those of the hatch, meaning there will be a range of petrol engines displacing between 1.6L and 2.0L and developing up to 225hp (168kW) in the turbocharged performance models. Diesel fans will be able to choose from the current 1.5L and 1.9L dCi turbodiesel units, ranging in power from 89hp (66kW) to 178hp (132kW). Direct injection appears to be off the table for this round of updates due to cost considerations.Renault Megane Sedan and Kombi renderings2008 Renault Scenic and Kombi2010 Renault Megane Grandtour spy shots Read More

  • Early look at next-gen Renault Megane Cabrio

Early look at next-gen Renault Megane Cabrio So far this year we’ve seen the wraps come off the all-new 2009 Renault Megane five-door hatchback and the sporty three-door Coupe variant, but there are still a number of important models in the works that we are yet to see. These include a new Megane Sedan, long-wheelbase Kombi, high-performance Renault Sport or GTI Coupe, and an open-top Megane Cabrio.

We now have a preview of the Cabrio model thanks to these two new computer generated renderings. They suggest that the Cabrio will be based on the sportier Coupe model, which sits 12mm lower than the standard hatchback and features stiffer springs and dampers. However, all Megane... So far this year we’ve seen the wraps come off the all-new 2009 Renault Megane five-door hatchback and the sporty three-door Coupe variant, but there are still a number of important models in the works that we are yet to see. We now have a preview of the Cabrio model thanks to these two new computer generated renderings. They suggest that the Cabrio will be based on the sportier Coupe model, which sits 12mm lower than the standard hatchback and features stiffer springs and dampers. However, all Megane models share the same MacPherson-type front suspension coupled with a new sub-frame and programmed deflection flexible beam in the rear. All variants, including the Cabrio, will share the same engine lineup, which consists of two 1.6L engines developing 100hp (74kW) and 110hp (82kW) respectively, as well as a 140hp (104kW) 2.0L unit. A new TCE 130 turbocharged engine is due next year. A six-speed manual transmission will come as standard and is joined by an optional CVT automatic. Diesel fans have five different engines to choose from, ranging from 85hp to 130hp (63-97kW). The diesel lineup will shortly be extended to include a 160hp (119kW) unit coupled with a manual gearbox and a 150hp (112kW) model mated to an automatic transmission. The new Megane Cabrio should arrive roughly 12 months after the Coupe, which is scheduled to hit showrooms next month.2009 Renault Megane hatch2009 Renault Megane Coupe2010 Renault Megane Cabrio preview Read More
