  • Mitsubishi prices 2010 Lancer Sportback Ralliart from $27,590

Mitsubishi prices 2010 Lancer Sportback Ralliart from $27,590 With Subaru's defection from sedan to hatch-only status for the WRX STI, some fans lost their love for the rally-bred monster and started eying the heretic's choice: the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. But fans of the Lancer have so far been stuck with the opposite problem: no hatchback.

That problem is solved, however - or at least nearly so. There won't be a hatchback version of the Evo X, but the previously announced Lancer Sportback GTS and Ralliart models have been priced for the U.S. today, and with starting prices of just $19,190 for the GTS with a five-speed manual and $27,590 for the 237-horsepower, twin-clutch Ralliart... Tuning potential for the Ralliart model is huge - it uses a detuned version of the same 4B11 engine found in the Evo X - and with its use of the TC-SST dual-clutch transmission and standard AWD with active center differential, the Sportback Ralliart is one of the best values on the market, priced almost dead even with Subaru's manual-shifted WRX Premium. Mitsubishi UK unveils 403hp Evolution X FQ-400 They've been called budget supercars for years now, and the latest crop of factory hot-rods are seriously infringing on that performance territory. Take Mitsubishi's new FQ-400 special for the UK, unveiled today: 3.8 seconds 0-62mph puts it on par with the Corvette ZR-1, Nissan GT-R, Lamborghini Gallardo, and a handful of other cars costing up to ten times as much as the hotted-up Evolution X.

And that's the magic of the 2009 Mitsubishi Evolution X and other cars of its ilk. For just a few thousand dollars - or pounds sterling, as the case may be - more than a family grocery-getter, you can have four-door utility with supercar performance.... They've been called budget supercars for years now, and the latest crop of factory hot-rods are seriously infringing on that performance territory. For just a few thousand dollars - or pounds sterling, as the case may be - more than a family grocery-getter, you can have four-door utility with supercar performance. Just last week the FQ-330 SST variant was released as well, demonstrating the principle in slightly less extravagant form. The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-400 is the fastest and most extreme version of Mitsubishi’s motorsport-derived machine. With 403hp and 387lb-ft of torque on offer from its advanced, lightweight aluminum 2.0L turbocharged MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control) gasoline engine the FQ-400 is able to reach 62mph (100km/h) from standstill in an estimated 3.8 seconds before reaching its electronically limited 155mph top speed. The brutally quick acceleration is aided by the Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) four-wheel-drive system which appropriates power to the wheels that can best use it. Increasing the FQ-400’s cornering ability even further over its FQ relatives is a wider track and lowered suspension featuring Eibach springs and Bilstein Shock Absorbers. Lightweight 18in, nine spoke alloy wheels fitted with Toyo Proxes R1R tires enhance the FQ-400’s grip. The enhanced agility and performance is backed by a revised braking system which uses aerospace grade aluminum alloys and floating sealed discs grabbed by high performance pads. Getting all that power out of the relatively tiny 2.0L powerplant required major revisions to the base unit. Motorsport specification high-flow fuel injectors are fitted to the aluminum cylinder head and a new hybrid turbocharger is also fitted. The higher specification turbocharger features low-friction bearings, a high temperature turbine and strengthened thrust bearing to increase response and reduce turbo lag. Feeding the turbocharger cooled air, improving its performance and efficiency, is an enhanced intercooler, while the exhaust’s gases flow from the engine via a 3in diameter high flow stainless steel piping and catalytic converter before exiting through a centrally positioned exhaust. In addition to being a no-BS rally car for the street, the Mitsubishi Evolution X FQ-400 is also a fully loaded daily driver, complete with Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, 30GB multimedia hard drive, DVD sat-nav, automatic lights and wipers, and a host of other tech and comfort features. Pricing reflects the FQ-400's status as Mitsubishi's top-of-the-line Evo, but it's still leagues below the performance competition, starting at £49,999 ($78,120). Sales start in June throughout the UK.Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-400 Read More

MML Sports unveils Mitsubishi Evo X Group N rally car Rally racing has taken some of the hardest hits of all of the major motorsports during the ongoing economic and automotive downturn, but being down doesn't mean being out. MML Sports today unveiled their Group N Mitsubishi Evolution X rally car, to campaign for the World Rally Championship Production class.

Building the MML Evo X was an experiment in many ways, according to the company, because few of the necessary upgrades and modification pieces are available in the aftermarket due to the Evolution X's relative newness. That means much of the car is custom-fabricated in-house by MML, including the roll cage and fuel tank. Per Group N specifications, the 4B11 engine and the standard suspension layout are unchanged. Springs and dampers were upgraded, however, including BOS dampers, the same company that works with Mitsubishi's WRC cars. One area where Group N cars are allowed to play with freedom is the center differential and engine mapping, and MML has fitted a MOTEC control system to maximize output and performance. Exact power and performance figure have yet to be released, but the car's maximum speed can be set anywhere between 118-136mph (190-220km/h) depending on the gearset chosen. That may seem a bit low compared to other motorsports, but remember, these guys do it in the dirt - or gravel, or mud, or mid-air. Check out the gallery below for shots of the car in stock form, through the build process, completed as a rally car and in action on course. The move echoes a similar step taken by Nissan in January when it closed its Michigan studios. Chrysler closed its California design studio last May, though the facility was later purchased by - of all companies - Mercedes-Benz. “It’s a reflection of what is going on in the auto industry right now and the economy as a whole. Design functions will now revert fully to our headquarter’s facilities in Japan," Mitsubishi PR spokesman Moe Durand told The New York Times. Fortunately for fans of the brand's hottest car - the Lancer Evolution - the U.S. design studio was responsible for more uniquely American vehicles, including the Eclipse, Galant and Endeavor. The lack of success of the Project America, or PS platform cars as they are called internally, also contributed to the decision to shut the studio down.2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse2009 Mitsubishi Galant facelift Read More

But more than just a project in low lap times, the CZ200S will be the development platform for all of HKS's Lancer Evolution X consumer parts. The car will wear a combination of current off-the-shelf parts and HKS prototypes in the mean time. Like the historic 1968 Shelby EXP500 CSS - aka The Green Hornet - the CZ200S could eventually become one of those phantoms of the collector car industry: a project horse that spawned some of the most important technologies of the speed merchant business of its time.HKS CZ200S Lancer Evolution X Read More
