Hyundai Genesis Coupe Goes Digital For Forza Motorsport 3

Video games are, it seems, a natural companion to modern car culture. Pros use them--or simulators that resemble them--to train for tracks they haven't seen or don't see often. Amateurs use them to imagine what it'd be like to be a pro. And people of all stripes play just to have fun.

So the introduction of a set of special-edition Hyundai Genesis Coupes to the digital world of Forza Motorsport 3 makes a lot of sense in terms of reaching potential buyers. The cars in the game won't bear a whole lot of resemblance to the cars on dealership lots, though.

The three digital Coupes are the Rhys Millen Racing Red Bull Genesis Coupe, the HKS Genesis Coupe and a one-of-a-kind in-game Genesis Coupe. The Genesis will also get its own race series, plus a tool to let gamers upload their best Genesis Coupe photos and videos from in-game customization and racing action. The hope is that the tie-up will increase awareness among the enthusiasts and younger buyers that tend to gravitate toward the Forza series of video games. Sound like marketing garbage? It may be marketing gold: Hyundai says teens in the U.S. wield $172 billion in spending power on their own and directly influence another $565 billion in parental spending with their input. That's a whole lot of spending going on. But regardless of what you think about the marketing ploy or the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe itself, it's easy to get behind carmakers that sponsor and help provide realism to games as enjoyable as Forza Motorsport 3. The game was launched last week, and is available for the Xbox360 platform. The Hyundai Genesis Coupe vehicle package will be available as a free downloadable add-on through Xbox LIVE starting November 17. [Hyundai] Read More

Street Concepts Hyundai Genesis Sedan To Get Live Paint Job At SEMA

The Hyundai Genesis Sedan is the 2009 North American Car of the Year for good reason--quality, features, styling and value all combine in a compelling package. But the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) is all about adding to an already interesting base, which is exactly what Hyundai and Street Concepts have planned for the Sedan at this year's SEMA show.

Graphic designer Courtney Mason will paint a one-off graphic on a Pearl White Street Concepts Genesis Sedan live at the show. The graphic will make this particular Genesis Sedan completely unique, though it will also get other treatments.

Some of the mods to the Street Concepts Genesis Sedan include 3M carbon fiber roof panels, black chrome accents, upper and lower spoilers plus mesh front grille inserts, and custom suede and piano plack interior upgrades to offset the carbon fiber dash. Huge 22-inch wheels with black chrome wheel centers and black lips will carry forward the bright-and-black theme, while Eibach lowering springs, Brembo brakes and a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust help the 375-horsepower Tau V-8-powered Street Concepts Genesis go as well as it shows. The live painting will take place Nov 3-6, at the Hyundai booth of the SEMA show in Las Vegas. [Hyundai] Read More

    2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec Preview

High-performance, inexpensive rear-wheel drive coupes are uncommon sights, but Hyundai has just added one to the short list with its new 2010 Genesis Coupe R-Spec. A 'track-tuned' suspension and Torsen-type limited-slip differential offer improved handling over the standard Coupe, while R-Spec badging lets onlookers know what's under all the aftermarket gear. Other standard elements--not so common on a stripped-down track day car, but handy for a daily driver--include keyless entry, front, side and side curtain airbags, active front head restraints, air conditioning, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, power windows and door locks, an MP3-capable six-speaker stereo system with iPod/USB conncetivity and projector beam headlamps. The basic package offers as much performance as the Track model, but at a $3,000 discount, freeing up some cash for whatever the buyer might like to add--perhaps a larger turbo, intercooler and associated electronics, or maybe a serious audio/video system and a unique paintjob. Whatever the mods, the R-Spec goes the extra mile to draw in the tuner market. Only sales will show how successful Hyundai has been. The new 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec will make its official U.S. debut at next week’s 2009 SEMA Auto Show in Last Vegas before going on sale nationwide soon after. [Hyundai] Read More

These high-performance parts will be displayed on the "GReddy X-Gen Street Genesis Coupe" show car at the SEMA event and will go on sale immediately after. The vehicle from GReddy, based on the 2.0-liter turbocharged model, is designed for the enthusiast looking to make modifications for daily driving or a weekend at the track. Some of the performance modifications planned include a turbo upgrade kit, a large front-mounted intercooler, a cat-back exhaust system, a racing downpipe, adjustable coil-over suspension, and GReddy six-piston front and four-piston rear brake calipers. Styling modifications to the GReddy Genesis Coupe will include an Aero lip spoiler, carbon-fiber hood, aggressive rear spoiler, Volk Racing G2 wheels and Toyo performance tires. According to Hyundai, the car will develop upwards of 350-horsepower and 320-pound-feet of torque, which should be enough for a 0-60 mph time of less than six seconds. Following SEMA, GReddy plans to make additional engine modifications, pushing horsepower to nearly 500. Read More

    Hyundai Unveils Long-Wheelbase Equus Flagship

If you were too easily offended by Hyundai--yes, Hyundai--proclaiming its Genesis sedan could duke it out with the likes of Lexus and Infiniti, boy, are you going to be irked.

Come next year, Hyundai's taking it one step further. And bigger. And richer.

The South Korean automaker has already confirmed that its 2011 Equus flagship sedan will be sold in limited numbers in North America next year--both in standard and long-wheelbase forms.

These are the first shots of the long-wheelbase model, which will go head-to-head to stretched versions of cars like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7-Series and Lexus LS. Like its rivals, the long-wheelbase Equus offers several upgraded features from the normal sedan version, including differentiated exterior designs and longer overall length. The vehicle’s length is longer than major competitors by as much as 12.2-inches, with backseat legroom as much as 14.8-inches longer, as well. To further differentiate it from the standard sedan, the stretch version is equipped with an exclusive horizontal cross-bar radiator grille with an emblem in the center. Both standard and long-wheelbase models share the same powertrain lineup: a 286-horsepower 3.8-liter Lambda V-6 and a 361-horsepower 4.6-liter Tau V-8. Comfort features include a power-driven footrest, rear seat leg supports, a posture control recliner and a massager. While it hashes out the details, Hyundai will show the Equus at future auto shows. When it reaches dealers at the end of summer 2010, it should feature conservative pricing, which may mean a proportional step up from the most expensive Genesis sedans, somewhere around or above $50,000. Only 100 to 200 dealers will be allowed to sell the car, and Hyundai only expects to sell 1000 to 2000 cars annually while it feels its way around the luxury end of the market.
