In addition to the change in output, which rises from 480 to 485hp, the significant change is the introduction of a new Transmission Control Module (TCM) program for the GT-R’s 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. The changes have been well documented and have come as a reaction to the monumental gearbox failures experienced by some customers using the launch control system on the original spec GT-R. Essentially, the changes are designed to optimize clutch engagement for improved drivability and improve vehicle acceleration with the car’s traction control system switched on. Other changes to the car include an updated braking system with more rigid brake lines and brake calipers with both Nissan and Brembo labeling. The suspension also gets retuned with redesigned Bilstein shocks featuring a new valve body design and revised spring and damper rates. The standard 20in forged aluminum-alloy wheels get a slightly darker finish and are shod with new Dunlop summer tires. Finally, a Pearl White paint scheme is now also available. No details on pricing have been revealed but don’t expect much change from the $81,790 starting price of the base 2009 GT-R.Nissan GT-R in depth Read More

Updated Specter Werkes Corvette GTR delivers 615hp Almost a year after the C6-based Corvette GTR from Specter Werkes was first unveiled the Michigan-based performance house has released an updated version of the modified supercar that is on sale now. A unique and flamboyant interpretation of the Corvette's basic shape, the Specter Werkes GTR mixes custom bodywork with a distinctly American take on supercar muscle.

The addition of a custom cam design with more lift has liberated an extra 80hp (60kW) over the outgoing model, bringing output to a grand total of 615hp (459kW) and 578lb-ft (783Nm) of torque.

The company says many levels of engine tune will be available, but this package is based on a stroked LS3 that sees displacement lifted from 6.2L to 6.8L. The vehicle is also fitted with a Corsa exhaust and gets full widebody treatment, with broadened suspension and a wider covering. The full bodykit includes exposed carbon fiber details on the exterior, a new front fascia, carbon fiber splitter, extractor hood, front fenders, doors, rocker panels, rear fenders, rear fascia, and a carbon fiber rear diffuser. Special Forgeline VR3P wheels, measuring 19in up front and 20in in the rear provide ample room for the huge 285/30ZR19 front and 335/25ZR20 rear Michelin Pilot Sport 2 Zero Press tires. Stop Tech 15in slotted brake discs and six pistons up front mate with 14in and four piston calipers in the rear for abundant stopping power, lap after lap. The car is painted in BASF liquid silver color (the same used on Mercedes Benz AMG models), while the interior gets GTR-standard embroidered seats and Spinneybeck leather trim details. Like the last version, the Corvette GTR upgrade carries a base price of $34,995, with more custom work available for a premium. All GTRs are custom-built to order and carry documentation and identification to that effect. Importantly, the upgrades are available across the Corvette range, including the base Coupe, new Grand Sport, Z06 and even the ZR1.Specter Werkes GTR Read More

McLaren F1 GTR 'Longtail' privateer race car up for sale The McLaren F1 was so far ahead of its time in terms of performance that it redefined the meaning of the term 'supercar'. But even during its production run, there was a faster variant, limited in production but now up for sale from a private collection in Japan.

Built for racing, the F1 GTR competed in the BPR Global GT Series, now known as the FIA GT Championship. The car ran for three years from 1995-1997, with 9 built the first two years and ten the final year. In 1997, the car weighed about 2,000lb (910kg) and generated a conservative 600hp (447kW) from its de-stroked 6.0L version of the F1's 60-degree V12.

The example on sale at Bingosports in Tokyo, Japan claims to be chassis #28R, the very last of the cars built. Chassis #28R was originally #27R, but was damaged and remade into a spare car that later raced at the tail end of the inaugural season of the FIA GT Championship. Little else is known about the car or the sale, aside from its Gulf Oil livery and its 'Longtail' longer rear wing section, a change in the aero for 1997 designed to get more grip over the rear wheels. A standard road-going McLaren F1 recently went for $4 million at auction, and it's possible that this racing example could fetch even more. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the romantic racing history some might wish for. To see the car in more detail, head on over to the Japanese sale site.McLaren F1 GTR Chassis #28R Read More

For the past 15 years the franchise has expanded on that theme, evolving to a level of realistic graphics and fun-focused gameplay that everyone can get on board with. The latest chapter in the series, Need for Speed: Shift, promises to deliver on the fun while upping the reality factor. Now with the release of the latest instalment in the series, 'Need for Speed: SHIFT', the franchise is set to become more driver focused, in the same vein as Forza and the GT series. If that wasn't enough to get you excited, then the contents of a full track and car list for the game has been revealed with some cars and tracks that we are definitely looking forward to testing out. This includes favored testing track, the Nordschleife Nurburgring as well as other race tracks such as Laguna Seca, Road America, Silverstone, and Brands Hatch. Drivers can also race in London and Tokyo, as well as other cities. Developed in conjunction with Slightly Mad Studios, which also worked on the GT Legends and the insanely hardcore GTR2 simulators, the Electronic Arts game will focus on real on-track racing rather than street racing or tuner mods like some previous NFS titles. To help immerse the driver in the game, fully modeled interiors and highly detailed exteriors give a sense of actually being in the car and wheel-to-wheel with the competition. As these screenshots show, the motion blur and lighting are also top-notch. EA has previously announced that the game will be released for sale in the U.S. on September 22, while European fans will be able to buy it five days earlier. Until it hits store shelves, however, we'll have to get by on these still screen shots. As its name indicates, the new model takes the 911 Turbo Cabrio and upgrades the power figures to a heady 650hp (485kW). This gives the car a maximum speed of over 205mph via a number of engine and aerodynamic upgrades. Featuring gull wing doors and headlights taken from the Carrera GT supercar, the car also uses unique steel extensions welded directly onto the body shell in order to widen the car. The car also features a new hood and custom side skirts, a carbon-fiber front skirt, and a new rear skirt to match the customized LED taillights. There’s also a built-in rear diffuser to help improve downforce, as well as a new rear wing. The engine gets a new race-spec crankshaft, forged pistons and high-flow turbochargers. There are also new camshafts and cylinder heads, and a high-performance exhaust system that helps give the car a much louder growl than the standard model. The final results of all these modifications are not just a visually stunning car, but also one that can sprint to 62mph in just 3.4 seconds, thanks to the 650hp (485kW) and 700lb-ft (950Nm) of torque that the engine now churns out. Other modifications include an upgraded interior and high performance wheels and tires. While the extent of the modifications may be astonishing, the real shocker comes in the asking price - a cool 484,000 on top of the price of a new Porsche 911 Turbo, after which buyers are looking at a grand total of close to $600,000.Gemballa Avalanche GTR 650 EVO-R based on the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabrio Read More

Following the unveiling of the original ‘Razor’ Audi R8 at the Essen Motor Show last year, German tuning firm PPI Automotive Design GmbH has unveiled an even more aggressive version of the car that it debuted late last month at the Top Marques Motor Show in Monaco. Picking up the ‘GTR’ designation, the latest model builds on the success of the original version using knowledge PPI engineers have gathered over the past year from racing, wind tunnel development, and autobahn and track testing. The highlight of the package is an increased focus on optimising the power-to-weight ratio of the Audi R8, with engineers simultaneously boosting power while reducing weight. The essential part of the motor alteration is the incorporation of a specially engineered supercharger. A ram-charged sport air filter system and a high performance exhaust system made of stainless steel have also been designed and added specifically to work in conjunction with this new forced-induction system. The end result is a car with 580hp (427kW) and 600Nm of torque. At the same time, the R8’s 1,580kg kerb weight has been reduced by more than 250kg, enabling the Razor GTR to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in only 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 332km/h. In addition to the improved speed performance, the car also has a striking widebody appearance with elaborate, wind tunnel tested aerodynamics. All the parts, including the new front bumper, diffuser, side skirts, and hood, are made from carbon-fiber. Handling has been improved with the addition extra-wide 19in forged alloy wheels wrapped with 325mm Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires in the rear and 255mm sets up front. Sitting within these is an updated brake package with six-piston calipers all around and 380mm discs up front and 356mm units in the rear. The final mod is a hydraulically adjustable suspension kit developed together with KW Automotive.PPI Razor GTR Audi R8 Read More
