Street Concepts Hyundai Genesis Sedan To Get Live Paint Job At SEMA

The Hyundai Genesis Sedan is the 2009 North American Car of the Year for good reason--quality, features, styling and value all combine in a compelling package. But the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) is all about adding to an already interesting base, which is exactly what Hyundai and Street Concepts have planned for the Sedan at this year's SEMA show.

Graphic designer Courtney Mason will paint a one-off graphic on a Pearl White Street Concepts Genesis Sedan live at the show. The graphic will make this particular Genesis Sedan completely unique, though it will also get other treatments.

The graphic will make this particular Genesis Sedan completely unique, though it will also get other treatments. Some of the mods to the Street Concepts Genesis Sedan include 3M carbon fiber roof panels, black chrome accents, upper and lower spoilers plus mesh front grille inserts, and custom suede and piano plack interior upgrades to offset the carbon fiber dash. Huge 22-inch wheels with black chrome wheel centers and black lips will carry forward the bright-and-black theme, while Eibach lowering springs, Brembo brakes and a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust help the 375-horsepower Tau V-8-powered Street Concepts Genesis go as well as it shows. The live painting will take place Nov 3-6, at the Hyundai booth of the SEMA show in Las Vegas. [Hyundai] Read More

Spy Shots: 2011 Hyundai Genesis Facelift

Hyundai’s Genesis sedan has only been on sale for a little over a year and during that time it has already taken home the prestigious North American Car of the Year award. As successful as the original formula was, Hyundai is not resting on its laurels and is already planning an update to the car as seen in these latest spy shots.

The images depict a facelifted version of the car due late next year. They reveal a new tail-lamp design and slightly revised exhaust tips, and the camouflaged front-end suggests a new headlight and grille design as well.

The images depict a facelifted version of the car due late next year. They reveal a new tail-lamp design and slightly revised exhaust tips, and the camouflaged front-end suggests a new headlight and grille design as well. Expect the powertrain lineup to continue with minimal changes, which means buyers will be able to select from either the 4.6-liter Tau V-8 with 380 horsepower or the 3.8-liter Lambda V-6 with 305 horsepower on tap. New engines are possible, including a 265 horsepower 3.3-liter V-6 already sold overseas and a new 5.0-liter V-8 range topper with more than 400 horsepower. Supercharging technology is another area Hyundai is investigating but there’s no word on plans to introduce it to the Genesis line. Hyundai is also working on a new eight-speed automatic transmission but its first application is likely to be in the Equus flagship. Read More

Hyundai Equus Flagship Announced For U.S., On Sale By Late 2010

It's official: Hyundai has confirmed its flagship luxury sedan, the Equus, will be sold in the U.S. starting in late 2010. It is intended as a rival to luxury flagships such as the Mercedes Benz S-Class, BMW 7-series and Lexus LS, but with a price tag substantially lower than its competitors.

Previous reports from a Hyundai insider indicated that the Equus would be priced below $60,000 in the U.S. Its closest competitor, at least in terms of pricing, will be the Lexus LS 460, which starts at $64,700 including shipping. In South Korea the Equus is priced from $50,000 but a fully loaded version can range up to $81,000 in price.

In South Korea the Equus is priced from $50,000 but a fully loaded version can range up to $81,000 in price. We won’t have to wait until next year to see the Equus on local roads, however. "We showed the car at the New York Auto Show earlier this year, and the response was fantastic," says John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America president and CEO. "Since then, we've had a fleet travelling around the country, capturing input from our dealers and consumers. Here, too, the response was extraordinarily positive, and similar to the market reaction to the award-winning Genesis, so we've decided to bring it to the U.S." The Genesis took home the 2009 North American Car of the Year award and Hyundai is hoping to further capitalize on this success, since the Equus is based on a lengthened version of the RWD platform underpinning the award-winning Genesis. Measuring in at a generous 16.9 feet in length, 6.2 feet in width and 4.9 feet in height, the Equus certainly has the luxury sedan size factor. The powertrain lineup is also respectable, with the Equus available with a 286-horsepower 3.8-liter Lambda V-6 and a 361-horsepower 4.6-liter Tau V-8. A long-wheelbase model will eventually be offered, complete with a brand new 5.0-liter version of the Tau V-8. This new 5.0-liter unit is likely to be the sole powertrain used for U.S. versions. Some of the possible options include tilting rear seats, massagers and TV screens in the rear seats. Full details, options and specifications will be revealed closer to the car's launch next year. Power survey is an important goal for carmakers, as buyers pay attention to the company's vehicle market metrics. But the 2009 Hyundai Genesis has won a particularly meaningful one, taking the 2008 Inaugural Vehicle Launch Index. The Vehicle Launch Index is an independent measure designed to help automakers plan and execute successful vehicle launches in order to maximize revenue and profits, minimize incentive spending and maintain high residual values during a model's lifecycle. What this means is that Hyundai's win with the new Genesis positions the brand for even more future success, not just with the Genesis, but with other model launches. To make its decision, the J.D. Power team evaluated the price, volume levels, product mix, dealer incentive and invetory levels, the car's styling, performance and functionality plus the car's quality and projected residual values. Combined, these characteristics all contribute to a successful vehicle launch, and therefore say much about the health of not just the individual model but the company as a whole. Getting a leg up in releasing a new vehicle is all the more important in today's sales market, where a every bit of market share gained is key. "Launching new vehicles successfully is critical to the financial success of every automaker," said Gary Dilts, senior vice president of global automotive at J.D. Power and Associates. "Given lower consumer demand, vehicle proliferation and the financial pressures on the auto industry, every manufacturer must get it ‘right' from the start. By carefully analyzing more than 90 vehicle launches that have been executed in the United States, we have determined the key factors for launch success."Hyundai Genesis CoupeHyundai Genesis Sedan Read More
