Heidi Taillefer was one of several artists asked to submit a design concept for the exterior of the Infiniti G37 Coupe. No structural changes could be made so the car could remain safe and driveable, and able to be eventually sold. Heidi's inspired design "Ligozzi" was ultimately selected and she spent much of August and early September painting the vehicle. The Anniversary Vehicle will be on tour at various Cirque du Soleil shows and other events over the coming months. The car will eventually be auctioned off for charity. Read More

With its combination of open-top atmosphere, luxurious interior and real on-the-road capability, the G37 Convertible is sure to please a lot of people. Alongside the car's sales launch, Infiniti is also kicking off the car's marketing campaign with a new slogan: "Own the Sky". While first-year law students and real property professors the world over will have fun debating the implications, it's a clear attempt to highlight the convertible's main draw, and apply it to the world of online and TV advertising. The car's 3.7L V6 engine is backed by a choice of a 7-speed automatic transmission with available magnesium paddle shifters or a responsive close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission, the same as in the Coupe. Strangely, however, horsepower for the Convertible is down slightly versus the Coupe - 325hp (242kW) for the drop-top compared to 328hp (245kW) for the Coupe. The roof design features a three-piece folding steel top and a special convertible-focused interior, including a unique Bose Open Air Sound System that dynamically changes equalization based on outside noise, vehicle speed, and top position. Also on the feature list is an adaptive climate control system that adjusts fan speed in accordance to top position and vehicle speed. Overseas markets are expected to receive the car later this year.2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible Read More
  • Porsche wins 'most recommended brand' title, Japan and Detroit dominate 'most recommended vehicles'

Porsche wins 'most recommended brand' title, Japan and Detroit dominate 'most recommended vehicles' Devoted Porsche owners have given the brand the top ranking in a survey designed to figure out which brand and model of car most new car buyers would recommend to other potential purchasers. The survey, which was given to around 25,000 people who had bought cars between September and December 2008, asked the simple question of whether or not purchasers would recommend their new vehicle to a friend or relative.

The respondents were given just three choices: 'Yes, definitely', 'Yes, with reservations', or 'No'. The respondents were given just three choices: 'Yes, definitely', 'Yes, with reservations', or 'No'. Based on these rankings Porsche managed to come out on top, with around 91% of Porsche customers saying that they would recommend their vehicles to a friend or relative. The survey, conducted by a company known as AutoPacific, also determined what America's most recommended cars were in each segment, with some surprising results. Interestingly, European manufacturers were relatively hard to find on the list with Japan dominating the passenger vehicle segment and Detroit winning a number of categories in the light truck/SUV segment. The full list of cars can be found below, but it is interesting to note that the Infiniti G37 was the most recommended model of all, with 95% of its purchasers happy to recommend it to friends and relatives. In terms of passenger cars, offerings from Toyota (which also managed to win the mysterious 'Image Compact' title with its Prius) and Nissan dominated, but there was room for the Chevrolet Corvette to take out the prize for premium sports car. On the two lists, Land Rover and Volkswagen were the only European models to win any categories, and luxury stalwarts such as BMW, Mercedes and Audi were surprisingly absent from the list - indicating that customers were a little less than thrilled compared to their Japanese and Detroit-buying counterparts. • Nissan reviewing U.S. diesel plans

Nissan reviewing U.S. diesel plans Diesel engine sales have stagnated in the U.S. due largely to lingering perceptions of the clattering, foul smelling contraptions of the 1970s and earlier. It hasn’t helped that many carmakers have been reluctant to even offer them because of the relatively high cost of emissions certification and small profit margins. This has had the compounded effect of artificially inflating the price of diesel models and nixing any savings made from reduced fuel consumption (in the short term at least).

This has had the compounded effect of artificially inflating the price of diesel models and nixing any savings made from reduced fuel consumption (in the short term at least). Several carmakers are starting to offer diesels, taking advantage of recently introduced tax incentives, but many like Nissan and Acura are still undecided. Both companies promised to bring new diesel models to the U.S. by the end of the decade, but one has already pulled out and the other is reconsidering its plans. Nissan first confirmed to launch a clean-diesel Maxima sedan in the U.S. as far back as 2007 but those plans may be in jeopardy. Speaking with AutoObserver, a spokesman for the company said the original plans are under review and that there will be potentially some "delays or cancelations". The diesel engine in question is a 3.0L V6 turbo developed jointly with Renault for roughly $245 million. It’s rated at 235hp (175kW) and offers fuel-economy of about 33mpg (7.2L/100km) in a sedan similar in size to the Maxima. In Europe, Nissan is expected to use the engine for the Pathfinder and Navara as well as the Infiniti FX, EX and G37.2009 Nissan Maxima Read More

Zele reveals pricing for Infiniti G37 Gran Turismo edition Art imitates life, they say, though with video games getting so lifelike they look like playable movies, it's getting harder to tell which is life and which is art. Zele International has added to the confusion, showing off a new Gran Turismo edition body kit for the Infiniti G37, or Nissan Skyline Coupe as it's called in Japan, taken straight from the screens of Gran Turismo 5.

The striking kit crosses the pixel-reality border surprisingly well, though the currency conversion isn't friendly: pricing in Japan starts out at ¥382,600 ($4,160) for the full kit. What comes in the kit? A grille, front and rear bumpers, a side skirt set, rear diffuser, and a wing - all in carbon fiber. The 20in Rays wheels seen in the picture are apparently priced separately. Pricing so far is Japan-only, though, and the company hasn't said if it will be selling to overseas customers, or if they'll have to pay a price premium. The Gran Turismo G37 itself was originally designed by Polyphony Digital, the Sony-owned video game development company that has done the entire blockbuster Gran Turismo video game series.
