Following the unveiling of the original ‘Razor’ Audi R8 at the Essen Motor Show last year, German tuning firm PPI Automotive Design GmbH has unveiled an even more aggressive version of the car that it debuted late last month at the Top Marques Motor Show in Monaco. Picking up the ‘GTR’ designation, the latest model builds on the success of the original version using knowledge PPI engineers have gathered over the past year from racing, wind tunnel development, and autobahn and track testing. The highlight of the package is an increased focus on optimising the power-to-weight ratio of the Audi R8, with engineers simultaneously boosting power while reducing weight. The essential part of the motor alteration is the incorporation of a specially engineered supercharger. A ram-charged sport air filter system and a high performance exhaust system made of stainless steel have also been designed and added specifically to work in conjunction with this new forced-induction system. The end result is a car with 580hp (427kW) and 600Nm of torque. At the same time, the R8’s 1,580kg kerb weight has been reduced by more than 250kg, enabling the Razor GTR to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in only 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 332km/h. In addition to the improved speed performance, the car also has a striking widebody appearance with elaborate, wind tunnel tested aerodynamics. All the parts, including the new front bumper, diffuser, side skirts, and hood, are made from carbon-fiber. Handling has been improved with the addition extra-wide 19in forged alloy wheels wrapped with 325mm Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires in the rear and 255mm sets up front. Sitting within these is an updated brake package with six-piston calipers all around and 380mm discs up front and 356mm units in the rear. The final mod is a hydraulically adjustable suspension kit developed together with KW Automotive.PPI Razor GTR Audi R8 Read More

The first of these high-performance race cars has now finally been released, with Audi Sport Italia taking delivery on Tuesday of the car with chassis number 101. Twelve examples will be delivered during the forthcoming weeks to six customer teams, with the first races scheduled to start next month. The six customer teams plan to race in five European GT3 championships as well as in the 24-hour race at the Nurburgring for which Audi Sport has developed an endurance version of the car. The new car has been designed for private customer teams and fully conforms to the production-based GT3 regulations, which means they will be allowable in numerous national and international competitions. Prices start at roughly €250,000 but opt for an Audi-backed support team and prices increase to the €500,000 mark. Because the GT3 regulations prohibit the use of AWD, the Audi R8 GT3 comes with a modified RWD powertrain and a newly developed six-speed sequential sports gearbox. The suspension is almost completely stock, with most of the modifications focusing on weight reduction and improving the car’s aerodynamics package. The kerb weight is an estimated 1,300kg – 300kg less than the production model – and a modified front end and a large rear-wing have been added to generate the required downforce for the race track. The assembly of the race cars including the body shells is made by quattro GmbH in Heilbronn-Biberach, Germany, in a factory hall specifically for the customer sport program. The Audi factory in Györ, Hungary, delivers the V10 engines.Audi R8 GT3 customer race carAudi R8 GT3 Le MansAudi R8 LMS GT3 race car Read More

ABT also tweaks the TDI diesel engine for those that prefer oil-burners, which is most of Europe, raising power from 140hp (104kW) to 170hp (126kW). The exterior of the ABT mark VI Golf gets a custom front air dam, front grille, side sills, roof spoiler and rear diffuser/apron, plus a quad-tipped exhaust. Handling improvements include a new set of custom brakes, a sport-tuned suspension and 18 or 19in alloy wheels. ABT also let slip a tidbit about the company's upcoming tuned Golf GTI mark VI, which will produce 240hp (180kW), a rise of 30hp (22kW) over the stock version.ABT Golf Mark VI Read More

Shown at the Essen Motor Show, the road-going Murcielago R-GT features a number of modifications including a new carbon-fiber front spoiler, a new rear diffuser and a prominent spoiler at the rear. One of the most obvious modifications, however, is at the rear where Reiter Engineering has moved the Lamborghini dual-exhaust to the top of the rear in line with the brake lights. This produces a strange look that may not appeal to everyone but certainly marks out the Murcielago R-GT as not your standard Lamborghini. To top it all off, a set of lightweight, black, O.Z. racing wheels also come with the show car. The car will be sold by Reiter Engineering as a one-off piece, although the company is also likely to sell various individual parts in a limited production run. The full extent of the modifications are unknown in regards to the show car, however Reiter Engineering always removes AWD systems for their racing cars in line with racing regulations. The proper racing variant of the Murcielago R-GT is developed by Audi Sport together with Reiter Engineering, and usually keeps the standard Murcielago V12 engine with air restrictors in place. • Eibach Dodge Challenger debuts at Essen Motor Show

Eibach Dodge Challenger debuts at Essen Motor Show The 2008 SEMA show featured no shortage of customized Dodge Challengers, and for good reason - the has been a rather solid success in the U.S., at least in SRT8 form, especially considering Chrysler's other woes. It appears that Europeans are at least open to the car as well, if this Eibach-modified example is any indication.

Noting that the historical weak spot of American muscle is the handling department, Eibach focused its efforts on suspension and grip rather than generating more than the factory-specified 425hp (317kW). The key changes are a set of Eibach System Multi-Pro R2 coilovers and a set of enormous 22in rims wrapped in Toyo Proxes T1R tires at 265/30 sizing. Aesthetically, the Eibach Challenger is a striking car, with the factory orange accented by twin black racing stripes, race-oriented graphics (including a Dukes of Hazzard-style '01' number on the side of the car), a full-on interior treatment with more brilliant orange splashed about, and a custom Alpine DVD-capable flat screen entertainment system. The car is so far intended only as a display of Eibach's capabilities, but since the company converted the Challenger's lighting and other elements for German licensing, there is the possibility of small-volume production.Eibach Dodge Challenger at Essen Motor Show Read More
