The Grand Edition cars are packed with extra equipment as standard and are offered with several unique color options, but essentially they are just a new range-topping trim level for the CLS range. While the latest version is a UK-only package, Mercedes Benz spokesman Rob Moran has revealed to Edmunds that the Grand Edition is being considered for the U.S. and if it does arrive it “won’t be offered until next year's model changeover, MY 2011." Some of the special features that may be offered on a U.S. version of the Grand Edition include AMG-spec light alloy wheels, unique bumpers and badging, and slight power hikes over the standard models. The current CLS Grand Edition based on the 272hp CLS 350 CDI V6 turbodiesel, for example, features an additional 48hp (36kW) and 37lb-ft (50Nm) of torque. In keeping with its positioning as the range-topping model in the CLS range (ignoring the AMG model), pricing for the Grand Edition will be set higher than the standard model.2010 Mercedes Benz CLS Grand Edition Read More

Report: Saab ownership will enable Koenigsegg to bring Quant supercar to reality When it was first reported that Swedish supercar company Koenigsegg was one of the leading bidders for struggling automaker Saab, many were left scratching their heads. Why would a company specializing in building a handful of million dollar supercars each year want to purchase a controlling stake in a mainstream auto brand?

Things got a whole lot more serious last week when it was revealed Koenigsegg, together with a group of Swedish investors, signed a memorandum of understanding with General Motors over the sale of Saab. Soon after, Koenigsegg co-owner, Baard Eker, said that his company has several good solutions to bring into Saab and has what it takes to save it. A new report from Swedish news service Realtid has revealed that buying into Saab may allow Koenigsegg to bring its stunning Quant electric vehicle concept car to production reality. According to people familiar with the matter, Koenigsegg wants access to Saab’s production facilities to build electric vehicles. With the help of government aid for alternative vehicle development, production of the Quant is expected to start in very low volumes in a couple of years. The vehicle is actually the brainchild of fellow Swedish firm NLV Solar AG - a pioneer in photovoltaics and electrical power technology. The project was born when NLV commissioned Koenigsegg to develop and design a “car of the future”, incorporating the company’s proprietary solar technology.Koenigsegg Quant Concept Read More

Style at speed: MTM Birkin Edition Bentley Continental GT When dealing with the amount of money and prestige involved with a custom Bentley Continental, it's easy to get carried away - and there are plenty of examples to attest to that. But sometimes a custom house pulls off an upgrade that actually enhances the original, and that's exactly what we have with the MTM Birkin Edition Bentley Continental GT.

The kit adds 90hp, raising the output to 650hp from the big V12 engine, and lifting torque to 587lb-ft. That's enough grunt to get the big car up to 62mph (100km/h) in just 4.9 seconds and on to 124mph (200km/h) in 15.9 seconds - three seconds quicker than the stock version.

MTM also lays claim to the title of 'world's fastest Bentley' thanks to the Birkin Edition's 205mph (331km/h) top speed, proven three years ago and not exceeded since. MTM gets the extra performance out of the Continental GT with upgraded exhaust, an engine retune and a few secret tweaks. Other performance upgrades include a special F-Cantronic system that incorporates an electronic system to lower the Bentley by 35mm at the rear and 25mm at the front. Huge 412mm brakes with six-piston calipers stop the massive Bentley with ease. Twenty-one inch alloy wheels in a classic design match the modern-classic lines of the Continental. The exterior and bodywork are otherwise left untouched. MTM also offers the Birkin treatment to the Continental GTC, Flying Spur, GT Speed and GTC Speed in addition to the Continental GT pictured here.MTM Birkin Edition Bentley Continental GT Read More

In fact, General Motors itself has released several custom kits in the past few months. But the Hero Edition Corvette ZR1, built to benefit the Kids Wish Network, is the only one of its kind.

For a twist, the Hero Edition isn't for sale - not even up for auction. Instead, it will be raffled off by WinTheVettes to benefit charity. Entry tickets cost just $3 each, but discounts can be had for lots of 5 or more, all the way up to 6,000 tickets, which will cost just $5,000. What that means is you may well have to spend the purchase price of a standard ZR-1 in order to even have a chance at winning the car. But that's what charity is for. Even though there's only one Hero Edition car, with all the money this car is likely to raise for the Kids Wish Network, there will be many, many heroes. • Corvette GT-1 Chamionship Edition photos revealed

Corvette GT-1 Chamionship Edition photos revealed In January Corvette put a price to its new Competition Sport appearance package designed to appeal to hardcore Corvette racing fans. Now another similar package called the GT-1 Championship Edition - paying homage to the racers of the ALMS GT-1 class - is on offer, and the full photos show just how much a difference an appearance package can make.

The key elements of the GT-1 Edition Corvette package are a ZR1-style full-width rear spoiler, forged chrome wheels, a yellow and black color scheme (black with yellow racing stripe or vice-versa), unique race-inspired graphics including the driver's name on the roof, the 'Jake' racing mascot, and... Body colored door-handles, carbon-fiber-esque engine covers and other small accents complete the C6.R-look. But the GT-1 Edition package, like the Competition Sport before it, is an appearance package only, despite the racing inspiration. When applied to the base model Corvettes, the packages include the price of the Z51 upgrade, but otherwise they affect only the looks, not the performance, of the car. The cars are intended to represent the C6.R racing Corvettes, however, with the yellow model filling the role of the #3 car and the black doing duty for the #4. Inside, the interior gets upgraded to include GT-1 embroidery, unique yellow stitching accents on ebony leather and a special console trim plate. This last item is where the unique number and VIN sequencing is located, marking the car as part of a limited-edition run, also like the Competition Sport package. While the Competition Sport package costs a mere $3,350 (Z51) and $2,750 (Z06), the GT-1 Championship Edition will run a cool $7,840 on top of the purchase price of a Corvette Coupe 4LT, Convertible 4LT or Z06 3LZ. A total of 100 of each color and body style will be sold for a grand total of 600 cars.Corvette Competition Sport packageCorvette GT-1 Championship Edition package Read More
