Lighter, smaller, quicker and more responsive to customer needs - that's how the new General Motors Company is comparing itself to the now-defunct General Motors Corporation it replaces. Today's emergence from bankruptcy - just 40 days after it went in - marks the start of what the new GM hopes will be a very different way of doing business. The core points of the new GM plan were released in an announcement this morning, with more details to follow shortly in a media call with CEO Fritz Henderson. Central to the new GM manifesto is an openness to customer input, a new buying structure that allows eBay-like purchasing, including 'but it now' pricing, and a focus on continuing to turn out new products that are their own best argument for buying GM. "Customers will be able to bid on actual vehicles just like they do in an eBay auction, including the option of choosing a predetermined 'buy it now' price," Henderson said of the as-yet-unannounced plan to partner with eBay for sales. GM's transformation into its newer, lighter self isn't yet complete, however. Downsizing will continue through 2011 at least, with a reduction of 13 plants to just 34 in operation by the end of 2010, and a cut in U.S. jobs from the 91,000 GM had at the end of 2008 to around 64,000 by the end of 2009. Opening more communications channels, including direct employee interaction with customers, is also a core element of GM's plan to help bridge the 'perception gap' between its products and what people think when they hear the GM name. Fritz Henderson will lead the charge, launching his own blog and ramping up use of social media tools like Twitter. "In August, we'll begin regular visits with customers, dealers, suppliers, employees and others - in the U.S. and abroad - who impact our relationships with customers. We'll be listening to their ideas, and acting on the ones that will improve our ability to serve our customers better," said Henderson. "And of course, other executives and I will continue to reach out to customers through our ongoing web and Twitter chats." Stay tuned for more details and information as the re-launch of GM unfolds. • eBay watch: Fast & Furious cars up for sale

eBay watch: Fast & Furious cars up for sale The original Fast and the Furious movie was pretty decent. Sure, it had the odd cheesy line (“I live life a quarter mile at a time”), but it’s safe to say most car fans would have enjoyed it. With the release of the next two flicks, quality started to slide and the cars simply got lamer. So much so that by the end of Tokyo Drift it seemed pretty safe to assume that the franchise was well and truly dead.

Now the fourth instalment is out and some of the cred of the first movie has been restored and once again there are a series of modified rides that are no longer needed. So much so that by the end of Tokyo Drift it seemed pretty safe to assume that the franchise was well and truly dead. Now the fourth instalment is out and some of the cred of the first movie has been restored and once again there are a series of modified rides that are no longer needed. While previous cars used in the movies have been sold privately, many of the cars from the latest flick have turned up on eBay. You’ll find cars like the Camaro used to portray the F-Bomb, a Buick Grand National from the opening fuel truck hijacking scene, a 1970s Plymouth Hammer replica and a Nissan 350Z modified to the hilt. But buyers should be warned - many of these cars are actually damaged. Speaking with Edmunds, Fast & Furious' Picture Car Coordinator Dennis McCarthy explained that these were all the cars that couldn't be reasonably fixed. "Anything that was worth fixing, we saved and is still owned by Universal. All those cars are out doing promotional appearances all over the place. We got rid of all the junk," he revealed. Read More

It is based on the mid-level R/T model and includes a custom widebody kit in addition to the convertible conversion. It wouldn’t be a true WCC car without some modification of the interior, and as such the Challenger was given a complete overhaul inside, with contrasting black and white leather trim and a premium Polk stereo system. Other modifications to the car include 26in Asanti wheels, a sports exhaust system, blacked out tail lamps, and a discrete rear spoiler. The eBay auction has now come to an end, but considering the highest bid of $50,200 didn’t meet the reserve anyone interested in the car will likely be still able to purchase it.West Coast Customs Dodge Challenger widebody convertible Read More

This particular car is a 2007 model and is finished in ‘Palladium’ silver, matched with a black Alcantara interior. Other goodies include satnav, a 10-speaker stereo, reverse camera, and a 1183hp (882kW) twin-turbo V8 powerplant. The car was originally painted yellow with black stripes, but when it was presented to Steve Saleen by Ford he had it repainted in his preferred colors, white with blue stripes. According to its seller, no two Eleanors from the movie were alike because the cars needed to be set-up differently to do different maneuvers for filming. The cars in the movie weren’t original Shelbys but replica versions based on modified Mustang fastbacks. Furthermore, while the car in the movie is supposed to be a ‘four-on-the-floor’ manual the show cars in fact featured automatic transmissions to make it easier for stunt drivers.
