Transformers 2 movie pushes Camaro sales over the top Just last week we profiled the Camaro's rise to above-sticker sales prices due to huge enthusiast demand, including 14,000 pre-orders placed before the car even entered production. But now the new Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen movie is helping to push the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro fan base out into the mainstream.

That's a powerful claim, but with $201.2 million in revenue in the first five days on screen, Transformers is a powerful franchise. Prominent placement of the Camaro and other General Motors products could prove to be one of the best ad values of the year.

Prominent placement of the Camaro and other General Motors products could prove to be one of the best ad values of the year. While GM trudges through bankruptcy court, the Oshawa plant producing the Camaro is working flat out to keep pace with demand, but they'd better get ready for even more orders. GM is expecting June sales to nearly doubly May's figures from 5,463 vehicles to over 9,000, reports Edmunds. So far the most popular Camaro on order is a black SS model, with black the color of choice for about 25% of all Camaros, no matter which trim. • Dealers say Camaro sales hot, average price $500 over sticker

Dealers say Camaro sales hot, average price $500 over sticker Fans of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro have already placed orders for over 25,000 vehicles, only half of which have been filled since the car went on sale. Demand hasn't let up even a little bit despite the overall downturn in the economy and market, with the average Camaro leaving the lot in a new owner's hands in a matter of days.

Prices are staying high due to the demand, too, reports Bloomberg. While most of the cars on the market have some sort of financing or cash-back incentive on them - both from American and import carmakers - the Camaro has none. And it's actually selling for about $500 over sticker price.

While most of the cars on the market have some sort of financing or cash-back incentive on them - both from American and import carmakers - the Camaro has none. And it's actually selling for about $500 over sticker price. That's a remarkable feat, all things considered, and has to make critics of the retro-modern muscle car think twice about GM's wisdom in bringing the car to market. The 2010 Camaro is available in a range of trims, starting at the entry-level V6-powered LS and mid-range LT model, and ending at the grin-inducing 6.2L V8-powered SS models. Both six-speed automatic and six-speed manual gearboxes are available to catch the array of casual cruisers, stylish commuters and hardcore enthusiasts that are buying the Camaro. Video: Hennessey's 705hp LS9-powered HPE700 Camaro roars to life In January Texas-based tuning firm Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) announced plans for a highly modified 2010 Chevrolet Camaro that the company plans to launch early next year. Called the HPE700, the limited edition Camaro will boasts a 705hp (526kW) output and joins other mega-power custom cars like the recently launched ‘Godzilla 700’ Nissan GT-R and a string of ‘Venom’ Dodge Vipers. In January Texas-based tuning firm Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) announced plans for a highly modified 2010 Chevrolet Camaro that the company plans to launch early next year. Called the HPE700, the limited edition Camaro will boasts a 705hp (526kW) output and joins other mega-power custom cars like the recently launched ‘Godzilla 700’ Nissan GT-R and a string of ‘Venom’ Dodge Vipers. Just over a week ago the company announced it had successfully fit the same supercharged LS-variant engine found in the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 into the Camaro's engine bay, and today Hennessey released footage of the beast roaring to life. As if the 638hp (476kW) the LS9 puts out in ZR1-trim weren't enough, in the HPE700 the force-fed V8 mill will churn out a peak output of 705hp (526kW) and 717lb-ft (971Nm) of torque. The custom Camaro will also pick up the ZR1’s 15in carbon-ceramic brakes, light weight HRE wheels and Michelin PS2 tires. In addition to the power and handling upgrades, Hennessey will also be offering an exterior aerodynamics package to improve downforce at high speed. Penned by British designer, Steve Everitt, Hennessey's ‘Cam-Aero’ body upgrades include a carbon-fiber rear lip spoiler, carbon-fiber side rocker panels, a carbon-fiber front splitter, a new front fascia with hideaway-look headlights, and a front billet grille. Completing the look of the HPE700 is a ZR1 inspired hood design with a plastic window showing off the Hennessey's tweaked LS9 powerplant. HPE700 buyers will also receive a one-day performance driving course at Lonestar Motorsports Park – a ¼ mile dragstrip facility located adjacent to Hennessey's 24,000 square foot production facility and showroom. Hennessey offered the first HPE700 Camaros exclusively to registered bidders at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. However, the car will eventually be available to the general public or ordered from select Chevrolet dealers as well as directly from Hennessey. Pricing will start at $109,500. Twenty-four of the cars will be built, but 11 are already spoken for, so if you want your own piece of completely unreasonable muscle-car Americana, you'd better hurry. The story doesn’t end there as Hennessey plans to launch other turn-key vehicle packages for the new Camaro as well as an extensive list of aftermarket performance parts and accessories, including the recently announced, slightly tamer Camaro HPE550. • Hennessey drops new photos of 562hp HPE550 Chevrolet Camaro

Hennessey drops new photos of 562hp HPE550 Chevrolet Camaro Texas-based tuning firm Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) has already announced plans for a highly modified 705hp (526kW) version of the new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, which it plans to launch early next year, but if over 700 horses under your hood seems a bit extreme Hennessey also sells a ‘milder’ 562hp (419kW) version. New photos of the car revealed today show that its looks match its capabilities.

New photos of the car revealed today show that its looks match its capabilities. Called the HPE550, the limited edition Camaro joins other mega-power custom cars like the recently launched ‘Godzilla 700’ Nissan GT-R and a string of ‘Venom’ Dodge Vipers, and nicely fills the void left by the canceled Z28. Hennessey has decided to stick with the Camaro’s standard LS3 V8 engine from the range-topping SS model but thanks to the addition of a Magnuson supercharger and stainless-steel Corsa sports exhaust system output has been boosted to 562hp (419kW) at 6,200rpm and 557lb-ft (754Nm) of torque at 4,200rpm. Other modifications include new fuel injectors, a high-flow intake, aluminum wheels and custom aero package. According to Hennessey’s own claims the HPE550 Camaro will sprint to 60mph from rest in just 4.1 seconds and pass the quarter mile in 12.1 seconds at a 119mph trap speed. Such performance doesn’t come cheap, however. The kit alone costs $18,950 without installation, and this is on top of the $31,000 base price for the Camaro SS. Hennessey can also fully install it for the price $24,950, which also comes with a half-day performance driving lesson at the Lonestar Motorsports Park drag strip near Hennessey’s workshop in Houston, Texas. Looking to the future, Hennessey Performance has a twin-turbo 1,000hp Camaro in the works, so stay tuned for more.2010 Chevrolet Camaro Hennessey HPE550 Read More
