It wouldn’t be a European auto show without some outrageous creation from Brabus and for this year’s Frankfurt auto show the German tuner hasn’t disappointed. This month Brabus will unveil what it claims to be the world’s fastest and most powerful executive luxury sedan: the new SV12 R Biturbo 750 based on the facelifted 2010 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The modified sedan has been fitted with the tuning firm’s twin-turbocharged V12 engine, which in its latest form outputs a heady 750 horsepower and 995 pound-feet of torque. The mighty mill is a prime example for the old adage that there’s no replacement for displacement. A special crankshaft with longer stroke, forged pistons with a larger diameter and an increased cylinder bore result in a displacement increase from standard 5.5 to now 6.3-liters. In addition, the inlet and outlet ports of both cylinder heads are optimized for improved mixture flow. Four special camshafts also contribute to that same effect. The engine is also upgraded with larger turbochargers, an optimized intercooling system and a stainless-steel exhaust system with high-flow catalysts. The ECU also gets retuned to ensure the vehicle meets EURO IV emission regulations. The end result is a 0-62 mph time of 4.0 seconds flat and a top speed of 211 mph. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a modified five-speed automatic transmission. An optional Brabus locking differential optimizes traction. Stopping power comes from a high-performance brake system with 12-piston aluminum fixed calipers and 380x36 mm vented and cross-drilled discs in front, and 355x28 mm discs and six-piston aluminum fixed calipers on the rear axle. These reside within Brabus’ Monoblock light-alloy wheels measuring up to 21 inches in diameter. Read More

Brabus electric Smart car features electronic exhaust noise simulator It's often cited as an advantage of electric cars, but it's also one of the biggest potential danger zones: silence. It makes for peaceful - if somewhat eerie - cruising at speed, but it also poses a huge risk to pedestrians and other road users. So Brabus is doing something about it in the case of the Smart ForTwo Electric drive (ED).

Lotus Engineering and a number of research and automotive firms and governmental entities have come up with solutions that offer realistic exhaust sounds to those outside the cabin, and it's not clear which solution Brabus is using, but it's able to replicate a real engine. You can also choose between the sounds of a muscle car or an economy car, depending on your mood, reports Edmunds. Fortunately, for those times when it would be better to have no sound at all, the system can be turned off with a single switch. So far, the system is just a proof-of-concept, but with all the work going into the field, something similar will come to production by the time the Smart ED hits retail at the end of 2009 or start of 2010. • Brabus-tuned Mercedes E-Class Coupe bangs out 456hp

Brabus-tuned Mercedes E-Class Coupe bangs out 456hp The brand-new E-Class Coupe may be based on the old C-Class's underpinnings, but it's styled like the new car and is priced aggressively, making it a perfect car to buy and then build on. And that's exactly what Brabus has done.

The primary upgrade to the standard E550 Coupe is the addition of a 6.1L V8 engine rated at 456hp (340kW) and 453lb-ft (615Nm) of torque, which comes on at just 3,100rpm. That's good for a 4.7-second 0-62mph (100km/h) run and a top speed of 196mph (315km/h).

Getting that big-bore V8 into the little Coupe will cost you though - €29,000 or about $39,701. That's fully 70% of the base E550 Coupe's retail price,... The brand-new E-Class Coupe may be based on the old C-Class's underpinnings, but it's styled like the new car and is priced aggressively, making it a perfect car to buy and then build on. That's fully 70% of the base E550 Coupe's retail price, but speed is frequently measured in cubic dollars. And with custom-machined heads, custom camshafts and a billet crankshaft, it's hard to argue you're not getting your money's worth. Those with a taste for more sedate performance, an eye for efficiency and a home in Europe might prefer a four-pot diesel model based on the E250 CDI. Brabus tunes that little oil burner up from 201hp (150kW) to 232hp (173kW) with 413lb-ft (560Nm) of torque. A V6 E350 CDI kit adds some more bang to the diesel-drive offerings, with an upgrade kit pushing power to 268hp (200kW) and torque to 435lb-ft (590Nm). Any of the E Coupes can be fitted with a Brabus body kit that includes new aluminum front quarter panels with clear-coated carbon fiber inserts. New rocker panels house LED entrance lights, while the rear apron features a custom layout with cutouts for the quad-pipe Brabus custom exhaust. At each corner is a Brabus Monoblock alloy wheel, available in single-piece or multi-piece and in a range of sizes from 17in to 20in. Pirelli and Yokohama supply sticky tires to help get the most out of a custom suspension system and to harness the stopping power of the six-piston 14.2in (360mm) brakes. Inside, the car gets a fully custom treatment, with the customer free to spec it out as they please. Some of the options include a replacement steering wheel, Alcantara and Mastik leather upholstery and stainless steel accents. • Brabus first off the block with complete upgrade for new Mercedes Benz E-Class

Brabus first off the block with complete upgrade for new Mercedes Benz E-Class Noted for its sleek, stylish and almost stealthy modifications of Mercedes Benz vehicles, Brabus occupies a special place in the German tuner scene. Apparently that place is very special because the performance workshops is one of the first tuning firms to develop a complete upgrade package for the new 2010 E-Class.

The latest E-Class, which sneaked onto the scene at the Detroit Motor Show, won't be delivered to European customers until May, and the U.S. will have to wait until the third quarter of the year, but Brabus has already had its hands on one long enough to develop a whole range of accessories.

The latest E-Class, which sneaked onto the scene at the Detroit Motor Show, won't be delivered to European customers until May, and the U.S. will have to wait until the third quarter of the year, but Brabus has already had its hands on one long enough to develop a whole range of accessories. Working with the foundation of the V8-powered E500/550, Brabus has bumped up the displacement of the 5.5L V8 engine to 6.1L, optimized the cylinder heads, fitted new camshafts, and added a high-flow exhaust. This sees power jump from 388hp (290kW) to 462hp (340kW) and torque rise from 391lb-ft (530Nm) to 453lb-ft (615Nm). In order to transfer this power to the road with as little slip as possible, Brabus offers an anti-slip rear differential with a locking rate of 40%. The end result is a 0-62mph (100km/h) time of 4.7 seconds and an uninhibited top speed of 191mph (305km/h). To emphasize the lines of the new E-Class Brabus, has also developed an aerodynamic-enhancement kit manufactured from fibreglass or optional carbon-fiber. The kit includes new bumpers, front and rear, LED highlights, side skirts, an integrated rear diffuser and custom side vents. Other touches include 20in alloy wheels, a suspension lowering kit and a special control unit for Mercedes’ air-suspension system. Brabus also offers an uprated brake package, as well as a host of custom accessories for the interior. With development of the E500/550 package now complete, Brabus intends to turn its attention to creating new ECO PowerXtra performance kits for the various CDI BlueEFFIENCY turbodiesel models.2010 Mercedes Benz E-Class by Brabus Read More
  • Green with envy: Brabus mods the Smart ForTwo EV

Green with envy: Brabus mods the Smart ForTwo EV The production-destined Smart ForTwo EV showed its stuff at the Detroit Auto Show in January, and now Brabus has taken its turn to give a 'near production' variant the custom spin.

Subtlety is a fine art, and one not much practiced by custom car builders. Brabus is no exception, and to indicate the enviro-friendly nature of the car, they painted the whole thing green.

Beyond the lime-jello exterior, the car also gets a set of Monoblock VII custom wheels, LED ddriving lights, a white cabriolet soft top and matching green and white interior elements.

A sporty suspension enhances handling since the power mods typically on tap with Brabus are more or less off-limits at this point. To help people know the little Brabus is coming, they've also fitted a special sound generator that emits a sound "specially developed for the smart electric drive" and which is tied directly into the car's drive system. Expect the Brabus variant to go into production with very similar elements to the show car shortly after the Smart itself goes into production later this year.Brabus Smart ForTwo Electric Drive Read More
  • Trio of modified SUVs highlight Brabus’ stand at the Geneva Motor Show

Trio of modified SUVs highlight Brabus’ stand at the Geneva Motor Show It's not often that a full-sized SUV with the same power output of a Ferrari Enzo and a capability to hit almost 200mph comes along, unless of course you find yourself at the Brabus stand at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. The Mercedes Benz specialist tuner has chosen the Geneva event to unveil three new performance SUVs, two twin-turbo models based on the ML63 and G-Class as well as a brand new V8 conversion for the compact GLK-Class.

We reported earlier on the V12-powered G-Class, which at 700hp (522kW) is claimed by the tuner to be the world’s most powerful off-roader. It's not often that a full-sized SUV with the same power output of a Ferrari Enzo and a capability to hit almost 200mph comes along, unless of course you find yourself at the Brabus stand at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. The other forced-induction SUV from Brabus is based on the ML63 AMG model. Called the B63, the modified SUV features a twin-turbo 6.3L V8 engine producing 650 hp (478 kW) and a stunning 627lb-ft (850Nm) of torque - enough to propel the big SUV to a top speed of 194mph (310km/h). Brabus engineers spent some two years on the development and testing of the twin-turbo engine and custom exhaust manifolds. For maximum response at low engine speeds the turbochargers are comparatively small, and rather than two-right turning turbochargers being employed to boost the SUV's power, a custom left-turning system was developed for the right hand side of the engine to ensure optimal gas flow and perfect exhaust dynamics. In addition to its souped-up engine, the B63 distinguishes itself with chunky 23in wheels and an exclusive interior trimmed out with leather, Alcantara and carbon-fiber. Pricing for the super SUV begins at €190,602, which surprisingly is cheaper than the smaller and less powerful Brabus GLK V8. This V8 conversion for the compact SUV is priced at €198,000. This sees engineers shoehorn the V8 engine from the S-Class sedan but as usual Brabus has to modify the powertrain extensively. As part of the power treatment, the displacement of the engine is increased to 6.1L, after which it puts out 462 hp (340 kW) and propels the GLK to a new top speed of 172mph (275km/h).Brabus G V12 S Biturbo based on the Mercedes Benz G-ClassBrabus B63 based on the Mercedes Benz ML63 AMGBrabus V8 conversion for the Mercedes Benz GLK Read More
