Its combination of chiselled good looks, refined and fuel-efficient powertrains, high-quality finish and craftsmanship, and extensive standard features list makes it a winner in the eyes of most new car buyers. The latest version of the car was only introduced late last year but we already have a number of details including a preview sketch of the next model due in 2011. This will be the eighth generation of the popular nameplate, and if this sketch is anything to go by it will be the most aggressive and sportiest version yet. According to Auto Motor und Sport, where this image was sourced, the new Accord Euro will adopt more coupe-like styling, with short overhangs front and rear, and a very high waistline. The front-end will retain the broad look of the current model but will be positioned closer to the ground for a more aggressive look. The current 2.4L four-cylinder petrol engine should carry over as well as the six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. New, however, could be a range topping ‘Type-S’ model with a 2.3L turbocharged petrol engine with 260hp (194kW) mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and Super Handling AWD powertrain. Let’s hope that the U.S.-spec Acura TSX will also get this exciting performance option.2009 Acura TSX2008 Honda Accord Euro Tourer and sedan Read More
  • Honda confirms third-quarter launch for new crossover

Honda confirms third-quarter launch for new crossover Honda is currently in the process of developing a new crossover vehicle to cover a wider range of segments in its lineup, and a recent sighting of a prototype testing in the U.S. suggests that the North American market may receive this vehicle in lieu of the current Accord Euro ‘Tourer’ wagon sold in other markets. The carmaker has now confirmed that the new crossover model will go on sale in the third-quarter of the year.

The carmaker has now confirmed that the new crossover model will go on sale in the third-quarter of the year. Speaking with Automotive News, Honda’s executive vice president for North America, John Mendel, said a crossover model will “in the fall” but failed to give any other details. Mendel also warned that inventories were running high but sales were slow, and that Honda’s number one priority is to reduce inventory levels. Some initiatives include reintroducing low financing rates and cash incentives. As for the new crossover, a prototype seen testing late last year appeared to feature an Accord Euro Tourer body with an American-spec Accord front bolted on. While this may initially suggest that a U.S. spec Accord Tourer may be in the works, the wider track and taller ride height are dead giveaways that this model will be a little more substantial. A rear differential seen on the vehicles also confirm that they are equipped with an AWD system. The new model is expected enter production later this year at Honda’s East Liberty plant in Ohio. The most likely powertrain options will be the current 2.4L and 3.5L units from the Accord, although the spirited 2.3L turbo from the Acura RDX may also make a showing. Honda's range is missing a crossover vehicle and the rising popularity of such models would make it a viable vehicle for the carmaker in the current market. This means that Honda's CR-V and Element compact SUVs could be joined by a new midsized crossover based on the Accord platform, providing the carmaker with a decent competitor to cars like the Toyota Venza and Subaru Legacy wagon. • 2008's best and worst sellers

2008's best and worst sellers Though 2008 started out fairly strong, riding the wave of 2007, it soon became clear that things weren't going to hold up. Few anticipated how sharply the market would drop, however, and that combination of events has led to some interesting best-and-worst results.

Leading the charge as the best-selling vehicle in America, despite the fuel crunch and down economy is the 27-year champ, the Ford F-150, reports Forbes. With 473,933 vehicles sold this year, it's over 40,000 vehicles ahead of the second-place Chevrolet Silverado. With 473,933 vehicles sold this year, it's over 40,000 vehicles ahead of the second-place Chevrolet Silverado. The total pickup-truck sales of nearly a million units - for just two models - prove that there's an ongoing need for the vehicles despite their somewhat anachronistic casting. Honda's Civic and Accord and the Toyota Camry rounded out the top five spots, however, proving that relatively fuel-efficient vehicles that focus on moving people are also equally necessary, selling a combined 946 million vehicles. The poor-sellers were largely composed of vehicles that haven't found a niche in terms of utility, affordability and style. Crossovers count significantly among the list, as the nascent segment founders in the face of its first real challenge. Working down the list, the fifth worst-selling vehicle in the U.S. in 2008 was the Hummer H2, its blocky obloquy a self-fulfilling prophecy. Chrysler's Pacifica was the fourth-worst selling, preceded by the Mitsubishi Endeavor. Nissan's enormous and fuel-thirsty Armada SUV took second-worst-selling honors, and the least-purchased of all the mass-market vehicles of 2008 was the Hyundai Entourage minivan. What this portends for sales in 2009 is anybody's guess. If 2008 has taught the automotive industry anything, it's that even the best laid plans may often go awry. Read More

Recognizing the growth in demand for fuel-efficient diesel engines, Honda has announced plans to launch its first automatic transmission for a diesel engine early next year. The new gearbox is set to debut in the latest Accord Euro, and unfortunately the automatic diesel option is unlikely to arrive in the North American Acura TSX saloon anytime soon. Recent reports claimed that plans to introduce a diesel TSX were put on indefinite hold at Honda. The company is instead hoping that by including an automatic in its i-DTEC turbodiesel engine in its Accord Euro model, the car will become more appealing to a new segment of customers overseas - particularly in the corporate market where an automatic transmission is favored along with the associated high mileage of diesel. According to Honda, who only began making diesel engines in 2004, the automatic gearbox has been developed in-house as the firm didn't want to "compromise the performance" of its engine by mating it with a non-Honda transmission. The new five-speed unit uses the same straight gate layout and paddle shift system as seen on the Accord Euro petrol automatic earlier this year. CO2 emissions are rated at 170g/km in the saloon variant and 173-174g/km for the Touring wagon depending on the model grade. Fuel economy, meanwhile, is rated at 44.1mpg (combined) for the saloon and 42.8mpg (combined) for the Tourer. Top speed is 129mph for the sedan and 126mph for the wagon. Peak output is rated at 134hp (100kW) and 258lb-ft (350Nm) of torque. The new automatic diesel will go on sale in Europe from January of next year.2009 Acura TSX2008 Honda Accord Euro Tourer and sedan Read More
