The latest images depict the first actual prototypes for the next-generation F430. New reports suggest the supercar will be fitted with a 4.5L V8 engine and labeled the F450. Furthermore, Auto Motor und Sport is reporting that a concept version will be unveiled at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show ahead of a sales launch in early 2010. The report also claims the car will be positioned above the current F430’s placing, possibly to allow for the introduction of the aforementioned compact front-engined model. Expect between 550hp (410kW) and 585hp (436kW), a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and possibly a brake energy recovery system. Some details we can gather from the spy shots include bigger air intakes at the sides of the car, a new centrally mounted exhaust system and a slightly longer wheelbase. The new shots also confirm a wider track both at the front and rear axles as well as an additional pair of intakes located behind the rear window. Revealed for the first time on this yellow test-mule is a completely new diffuser design, which shows a more fluid look than previous versions. While the styling of the new F450 is expected to remain similar to the current F430, the car’s mechanicals could be very different. Ferrari has confirmed that it’s looking at a range of powertrain advancements including hybrid and turbocharging technologies, as well as the introduction of lighter construction methods and active aerodynamics.2011 Ferrari F430 replacement spy shots2011 Ferrari F450 spy shots Read More

Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M completes Goodwood Hillclimb in 59 seconds Ferrari showcased three of its latest supercars in the Sunday Times Supercar Runs at this past weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed (FoS), with cars like the new California, 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE and the limited edition Scuderia Spider 16M all making an appearance. To the appreciation of packed crowds, the cars weren't just there for show as all three tackled the event's famous 1.16 mile Hillclimb.

Cars race along a tree-lined avenue and turn to pass in front of Goodwood House, before climbing a steep and narrow estate road past flint walls and dense woodland groves, heading towards Goodwood's equine racecourse. One of the fastest cars of this year's event was the Scuderia Spider 16M, which completed the course in an incredible time of 59 seconds. The official record for the hillclimb was set in 1999 when Nick Heidfeld drove a McLaren MP4/13 F1 car up the hill in 41.6 seconds. For safety reasons F1 cars are no longer allowed to do official timed runs, and will often focus on demonstrations that are spectacular rather than fast. In 2006 Heikki Kovalainen completed the course in a Renault R25 F1 car and was unofficially timed below 40 seconds.Ferrari F430 Scuderia Spider 16M Read More
  • Novitec Rosso releases new photos of 696hp tuned Ferrari 430 Scuderia 16M

Novitec Rosso releases new photos of 696hp tuned Ferrari 430 Scuderia 16M Last year we reported on Italian tuning house Novitec Rosso and its work with Ferrari's extreme 430 Scuderia. In March Novitec followed Ferrari's reveal of the convertible version of the supercar known as the '16M', with its own, pumped up version, and today the company released a number of new, high-res photos of the car.

Similar to its work with the hard-top, the engineers at Novitec Russo have bolted on a couple of superchargers to the car’s 4.3L V8 engine. In the hard-top, the final power output was rated at 717hp (535kW), up from the standard car's 510hp (380kW). This time, with the 430 Scuderia 16M convertible, the power of the... Similar to its work with the hard-top, the engineers at Novitec Russo have bolted on a couple of superchargers to the car’s 4.3L V8 engine. In the hard-top, the final power output was rated at 717hp (535kW), up from the standard car's 510hp (380kW). This time, with the 430 Scuderia 16M convertible, the power of the superchargers has been dialed down a bit but the car still manages a healthy 696hp (519kW). While the standard 16M will demolish the sprint to 62mph in just 3.7 seconds and go on to a top speed of 196mph, there's little doubt that all the additional horsepower will help push the Novitec Rosso Scuderia Spider 16M well beyond the 200mph mark, and possibly even come close to the tuned hard-top which tops out at 215mph. Increasing the power output by almost 200hp (147kW) also meant that certain other modifications had to be made. Novitec Rosso chose to modify the suspension, fitting a hydraulic coil-over system that allows the nose of the car to be lifted 40mm. This will undoubtedly help owners navigate urban obstacles such as speed bumps and driveways, as the lift is activated simply by pushing a button from the cabin. For the exterior, the custom Scuderia 16M is accented by 20in forged wheels wrapped with high-performance Pirelli tires. At the rear, Novitec's trademark black tail lights replace the traditional Ferrari-red, while a custom LED strip has also been added as an additional brake light.Ferrari F430 Scuderia Spider 16MFerrari F430 Scuderia 16M by Novitec Rosso Read More

Late last year we saw images of a shortened 599 testing in Germany, suggesting that Ferrari may be working a new compact front-engined model, and soon after that we saw spy shots for the replacement of the F430. The images depicted a test mule for the next-generation F430 hidden under the body of the current model. A sticker located at the side of one of the windows showed the internal codename ‘F142’ but the actual name of the car is more likely to be based on the size of the engine just like the current F430. New reports suggest the supercar will be fitted with a 4.5L V8 engine and labeled the F450. Furthermore, Autocar is reporting that a concept version will be unveiled at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show ahead of a sales launch in early 2010, while a new hybrid version may appear in concept form at December’s Los Angeles Auto Show. The leap from F430 to F450 will be a significant one, with much of Ferrari’s F1 and GT racing knowledge going into the new car. Some of the rumored specs include radiators positioned ahead of the front wheels, understeer-cancelling software and an upgraded version of the F430 Scuderia’s traction control. A brand new aluminum chassis that’s said to be much more rigid - while also being lighter - than the F430’s will also feature. Ferrari has confirmed that it’s looking at a range of powertrain advancements including hybrid and turbocharging technologies, as well as the introduction of lighter construction methods and active aerodynamics. However, according to insiders, none of these will appear initially on the F450. This is partly because buyers might not be ready for a hybrid Ferrari with eco-friendly features such as stop-start and energy recovery technology, and partly because the firm is confident it can meet European emissions standards by further developing direct-injection technologies, at least until 2014. Also being delayed is the F450 Spider, which is expected to arrive up to 18 months after next year’s launch of the Coupe. This is because Ferrari is hoping to maximize sales of its California before the arrival of the F450 drop-top.2011 Ferrari F430 replacement spy shots Read More

The new bodykit from ASI gives the Ferrari some bold new looks and marries the two worlds of Japanese tuner cars and Italian exotica. According to ASI, the aerodynamic performance of the new bodykit matches that of F430’s original design, but more importantly the new kit is a full 27kg lighter than the stock version. Consisting of a new front bumper, side skirts and rear bumper, the full kit will set you back approximately $15,000, or alternatively the different parts can be bought separately. ASI is also offering to tweak the Ferrari F430's ECU for a fee of $7,500, which should free up some extra performance from the car with its focus on improving mid-range torque. The Japanese tuner will also be selling a Sachs suspension system designed specifically for the F430, which will set you back $13,000, resulting in a total cost of $35,500 for all the available parts. Additionally, ASI is working on some new parts for the F430, including a dry carbon rear wing set to arrive later this month along with a front brake system. Next month, diffuser fins and an ASI center-tip exhaust system that is compatible with the bodykit will be available and August will see the launch of custom 19in forged alloy wheels.ASI Ferrari F430 Read More

Ferrari’s F430 is destined to bow out towards the end of the year, set to be replaced by an all-new model, but in the lead up to its swan song German design group Unique Sportcars has teamed up with fellow Teutonic tuner Novitec Rosso to create the ‘Calavera’. Limited to just 11 examples, the Calavera (Spanish for Skull) is based around a highly modified F430 with unique airbrushing done by artist Knud Tiroch. Tiroch is one of the best in the business, previously being commissioned by David Coulthard, ZZ Top, Arnold Schwarzenegger and many more. Unique Sportcars, on the other hand, develops exclusive designs for customers wanting more than off-the-shelf. Some of the unique elements of the Calavera are the LED daytime running lights, engine dress-up kit, embroidered seats and an extended middle console. Novitec Rosso has been left with the task of boosting output of the F430’s high-revving 4.3L V8 engine. To accomplish this task, the tuner has added its now familiar twin-supercharging system, which in its latest evolution outputs 707hp (522kW) and 525lb-ft (712Nm) of torque and promises 0-100km/h times of just 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 348km/h. Other modifications include subtle aero pieces, new 20in alloy wheels, uprated brakes, stiffer suspension (lowering the car by 35mm) and a sports exhaust system. Unique Sportcars is taking orders for the cars now, and customers will have to wait roughly three months for their completeed cars once commissioned.Calavera Ferrari F430 by Unique Sportcars and Novitec Rosso Read More
