Two early-build Ford GT supercars up for auction
December 31st, 1969
The Ford GT is a mid-engined supercar built from 2003 to 2006 and inspired by the original GT40 Le Mans race car from the 1960s era. The latest version is in fact features almost identical styling to the original race car, although its chassis is much modern. Two very early-build Ford GT supercars - number six and seven - have now been confirmed for sale, with the pair set to be auctioned off this August at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
Though the GT was produced for a number of years, the two up for auction are very rare. Ford kept most of its early-build models, including these two, which were used by the automaker for promotional purposes and have never been registered to an individual.
Speaking with AutoWeek, organizers of the auction have revealed that the cars are expected to sell for between $150,000 and $200,000. Some of the proceeds from the auction will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
One of the cars is a red with white livery and has 4,065 miles on the odometer, while the other is white with blue livery and has 7,765 miles on the clock. The cars are basically stock, which means they are powered by a supercharged 5.4L V8 pumping out 550hp (410kW) and 500lb-ft (677Nm) of torque.
Ford built a total 4,038 GT supercars before production ended in 2006.
