More KERS boost in 2010 for cost-capped teams

Apr.30 (GMM) Another technical advantage to be enjoyed by cost-capped formula one teams next year will be double the KERS power boost.

Close followers of the world championship were spending their Thursday afternoon poring over the newly published 2010 technical regulations, featuring basically unchanged rules for teams not wanting to kerb their spending.

Those willing to be limited to 40 million pounds sterling, however, will benefit from non rev-limited engines, unlimited testing and moveable wings.

It also emerged that they will be allowed to use KERS systems outputting 120 kilowatts, while the free-spending teams are limited to just 60kw.

Williams and McLaren on Thursday responded to the FIA's confirmation of the 40m voluntary budget cap, while Ferrari did not want to comment.

"We would like to see all the teams operating to one set of regulations and under a budget cap in 2010 and that is the position we will be advocating within FOTA when we meet next week," said Sir Frank Williams.

McLaren agreed that a "two-tier" system is not desirable.

"We believe that the optimal solution – which may or may not include a budget cap, but which ideally would not encompass a two-tier regulatory framework – is most likely to be arrived at via measured negotiation between all parties," said Martin Whitmarsh.
