Mercedes Benz launches facelifted S-Class range and new S400 Hybrid

December 31st, 1969 The current generation Mercedes Benz S-Class and its associated AMG performance models have been on the market since the middle of the decade and are due to receive a minor update later this year to keep them fresh for their rivalry with the recently revealed BMW 7-series and next-generation Audi A8 arriving in 2010. On the eve of the New York Auto Show, Mercedes Benz has revealed full details and images for the new range but is not planning on actually presenting the cars at the event. In the 2010 S-Class, Mercedes-Benz has improved the renowned safety level even further with a host of new features. These were first previewed at an event in Leipzig last year, and include driver assistance systems, advanced radar and camera based sensing technology, intelligent situational awareness software, and electronic crumple zones. Also making its debut as part of the 2010 S-Class range is the all-new S400 Hybrid, which promises to deliver fuel-economy of 29.7mpg (7.9L/100km). The rest of the U.S. lineup includes the 382hp (285kW) S550 and AWD S550 4MATIC, as well as the 518hp (386kW) S600 and range-topping 604hp (450kW) S65 AMG. On the outside, some minor changes have been made to keep the S-Class' appearance fresh, including a more pronounced arrow-shape for the radiator grille. There is also a new front bumper with a light-catching contour, while at the rear the exhaust pipes are integrated in the rear bumper. Interestingly, Mercedes has installed a new interior lighting system that creates different types of ambient light depending on what the driver chooses. For 2010, these choices will include solar, neutral and polar. The new model range is scheduled to arrive in showrooms this August.Mercedes-Benz S400 BlueHYBRIDMercedes E-Class and S-Class safety features for 20092010 Mercedes Benz S-Class facelift

  1. I still don't quite like the back end.

BMW seemed to fix the look of the 7 series, so maybe MB will follow suit...

  2. Can we get some diesel models instead of the hybrid?

  3. I like the old face more.
