Italy’s IDEA Institute prepares second ERA concept car

December 31st, 1969 Last year, Italy’s IDEA Institute design group developed the ERA Barchetta concept car to mark the 30th anniversary of its founding back in 1978. The company is based in Moncalieri on the outskirts of Turin and has grown to become a supplier of a whole range of new vehicle development activities, from styling to full scale model building, engineering, running prototype construction and manufacturing engineering. As proof of their talents, IDEA designers built the ERA Barchetta from scratch in a period of just 30 days. The vehicle measured 4,300mm in length and was designed with two possible technical layouts in mind: FWD with a transversal four-cylinder engine or (the proper) RWD with a longitudinal V6. As the Geneva Motor Show approaches, first details about a new ERA concept car from IDEA have surfaced. The design group will show a more evolved version of last year’s ERA concept. The new design features a pair of gullwing doors, a two-tier trunk, a three-bar grille, and tube-frame chassis. More details should be released at next week’s debut.
