The Geneva show car was called a concept but expect the production version to look almost identical to it
Enlarge PhotoAlfa Romeo released the first details about the concept version of the car at the Geneva Motor Show. In line with the legendary GTA (Gran Turismo Alleggerito) signature, (Alleggerito means reduced weight in Italian), the MiTo GTA Concept prioritises weight reduction, and the achievement of an optimum power-to-weight ratio.
Considerable work has gone into lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity, with certain components such as the tailgate spoiler, roof, and mirror fairings all finished in lightweight carbon-fiber. To save additional weight, aluminum is used extensively in the braking system, suspension, and some parts of the chassis.
Under the hood is a newly developed four-cylinder petrol engine. Designed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies, the compact engine features direct injection, dual variable valve timing, turbocharging and advanced electronic management to produce an impressive 240hp (179kW) from its 1.75L of displacement.
Other upgrades to the standard MiTo include under-floor aerodynamics enhancements, a revised front suspension with new geometry with aluminum leading arms, and all new bushings for the rear suspension. Alfa Romeo engineers have also added an active suspension management system with advanced damper control as well as the Sky-Hook comfort adjustment.
A full selection of driver aids and safety devices, including multiple airbags, ABS, ESP, and EBD are standard, as are anti-slip control and steering-angle-sensitive torque limitation to reduce the tendency for torque steer.
Alfa Romeo is yet to announce a release date for the hot hatch but expect it to appear in European showrooms by the middle of the year.

Meet the top commenters on the LeaderboardFiat, when you come back through Chrysler, bring the Mito and this version of it
When did they start putting ads in these photos? Seriously, Virgin radio?
I like the car though. Have always liked Alfas.
230hp thats less than the old car.... i guess thats good because the last gta handled like crap lol but it was soo exciting! i dont want alfa to go more boring =[
azlan, isn;t the Mito a new car, so wouldn't this be a new GTA
yes but its the replacement for the 147 gta and it was wild. if the 147 is being replaced i want the mito to live up to the lunacy. obviously i know that the mito is a new car champ.
They should bring it as a Dodge and label it as an SRT
240 in what is roughly a mini?
madness
yeah this car looks bad ass. but i think they're fakin the engine sounds in the beginning. no amount of acoustic tuning can make 1.75l turbo 4 sound like throaty mid displacement v8. reminds me of when dodge put v8 sounds in their caliber commercials.
madness
Madness? THIS IS ITALY!
