Renault’s new Grandtour wagon is based on the Hatchback but comes with a longer wheelbase and taller roof
Enlarge PhotoWe’ve already seen a preview of the high-performance coupe in the form of the 2008 Megane Coupe Concept from the Geneva Motor Show last year, and now we can have an early look at prototypes for the upcoming wagon thanks to these latest spy shots. We also have several leaked images of the vehicle that were sourced from a patents office in Europe.
As expected, the wagon will essentially be the five-door hatch but with a stretched wheelbase for extra storage inside. The car should also feature its own unique taillamps, and its roof will also be slightly taller than the hatch.
The engine lineup should mirror those of the hatch, meaning there will be a range of petrol engines displacing between 1.6L and 2.0L and developing up to 225hp (168kW) in the turbocharged performance models. Diesel fans will be able to choose from the current 1.5L and 1.9L dCi turbodiesel units, ranging in power from 89hp (66kW) to 178hp (132kW). Direct injection appears to be off the table for this round of updates due to cost considerations.
