Bentley introduces 500hp Azure T convertible

Bentley has introduced the latest model in its ‘T’ line of vehicles with the unveiling today of the all-new Azure T convertible. The latest addition is specified with a high performance version of Bentley’s iconic 6.75L V8 engine, which in the Azure T is rated at a healthy 500hp (373kW) and 737lb-ft (1,000Nm) of torque - an 11% increase in power and a 14% increase in torque over its 450hp (336kW)/675lb-ft (875Nm) Azure stable mate.

The engine and six-speed ZF transmission of the Azure T are identical to those already employed in the high-performance Arnage T and Arnage Final Series saloons. Each of these hand-made V8 engines comes with a black-finish air intake manifold bearing the signature of the team leader who oversaw its construction by Bentley technicians in the Crewe factory.

With the uprated engine on-board, the Azure T drop-top will accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 5.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 179mph. Acceleration from 0 to 100mph, meanwhile, takes just 12.1 seconds.

Another important feature of the latest Azure T is the separation of the sports suspension and sports gearbox settings, allowing the driver to select their preference for each system independently via a ‘Sport’ switch on the dashboard for the suspension and by positioning the gearlever for the transmission’s Sport mode.

The svelte convertible also picks up 20in five-spoke alloy wheels, ‘Le Mans’ style front wing vents, a tinted grille, and a retractable Flying ‘B’ mascot. Other details include a Bentley ‘Jewel’ fuel filler cap and twin-exhaust tail-pipes.

As an option, Azure T owners may specify an upgraded braking system with carbon-silicon carbide, cross-drilled brake ventilated discs. Measuring 420 x 40mm (front) and 356 x 28mm (rear), these discs are the largest fitted to any production car on sale today. With eight-piston callipers, the brakes provide impressive stopping power and also give an 8kg reduction in unsprung weight, improving steering response, ride suppleness and acceleration.

The 1996 Continental coupe was the first modern Bentley ‘T’, followed in 2002 by the Arnage T, both flagship models with the same performance edge and classic luxury.
