Dodge reveals "Big Daddy" Don Garlits Drag Pack Challenger at SEMA
December 31st, 1969
The Dodge Challenger Drag Pack is a factory production heavily modified Dodge Challenger built exclusively for drag racing. Don Garlits, 17-time Top Fuel drag racing champion and still getting behind the wheel after over 50 years in the sport has cooperated with Dodge to create a special edition Challenger Drag Pack car for the 2008 SEMA show.
The "Big Daddy" Don Garlits edition started with the third of the drag pack cars built, which was then treated to a custom set of graphics plus an array of signatures and tweaks to make the car a one-of-a-kind special. It's not yet clear which of the possible engines the car has in it.
The Drag Pack Challenger is available with either a 5.7L or 6.1L HEMI or a 5.9L Magnum Wedge - all V8s, of course. The car is designed specifically to compete in as many classes of NHRA competition as possible, which could number as many as 40 according to Mopar, across the Comp, Super Stock and Stock Eliminator categories.
The Challenger Drag Pack is itself loosely based on the Dodge Challenger Super Stock concept from the 2006 SEMA show.
