Spy Shots: C63 AMG
December 31st, 1969
With the imminent release of the all new 400hp BMW M3, there was no way Mercedes were just going to sit around on their hands. AMG tuners have been tooling away and once again have managed to shoehorn a beast of an engine into a compact sedan.
This is a shot of the next generation C class, which will most likely be launched at the Frankfurt motorshow next year. Look closer and you will see that this is in fact the AMG version. The engine is expected to be a slightly detuned version of the 6.3-litre V8 currently found in the E63, with a likely power output of around 400 to 420 hp (297 to 305 kW).
Car buyers are the winners in this power struggle that car manufacturers are stuck in. It's amazing to see sedans with more power than more supercars just a few years ago.
