Factory Spec Carbon-Fibre Wheels
December 31st, 1969
Mosler in conjunction with specialty wheel manufacturer Dymag, has created the first car to be produced with a factory set of high-performance carbon fibre wheels. The wheel is a nine-spoke design and comes in either 18 or 20 inch sizes to fit the Mosler MT900S. The centre hub remains magnesium, and the outer rim is constructed from unpainted carbon fibre. Overall weight is a low 14 pounds for the front and 17.5 for the rear, a total reduction of 42 pounds for the entire setup over the current forged aluminium OZ wheels.
Lower rotational inertia is said to improve overall performance, especially acceleration and braking, but at $189,900 US dollars for the Mosler MT900S, it appears carbon fibre wheels won’t become too common anytime soon.
