Spy Shots: Maserati Gran Tourismo
December 31st, 1969
These shots may look like just another Quattroporte in testing, but look closer and you’ll see that this is actually a prototype of Maserati's all-new GT coupe. Set to make an appearance next year at the Geneva Motor Show, this prototype was caught testing by spy photographers at the Nürburgring.
The biggest giveaway is the absence of the rear door edges as well as the fake looking handles. Expect size and mechanicals to be similar to the Quattroporte. That means a genuine 2+2-seater, with a Ferrari derived V8 and Cambiocorsa clutchless gearbox. The GT is expected to have a 5.0-litre version of the Quattroporte’s 4.2-litre V8 and will develop around 470hp (350kW). The new car will even spawn a Spyder model in the near future, with a folding metal roof and most likely the 4.2-litre V8.
