December 31st, 1969 Rumour has it that BMW is developing a new X car in the form of the X4 to enter the emerging crossover market. Based on the X3 softroader, the X4 will have four doors but will come with a coupe styled roofline. There may even be a two door variant as well. The new vehicle will be a niche product with production most likely outsourced to one of BMWs partners. The X3 is already one of BMW’s ugliest cars, perhaps by making this low-volume model even harder on the eyes, the German automaker might believe that consumers will buy more X3’s instead – somehow, we doubt it.
