Paris preview: Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione revealed
December 31st, 1969
Photos of the production version of Alfa Romeo’s 8c Competizione have leaked on to the Web, and we’re glad to report the final car will look almost exactly like the concept revealed back in 2003.
The 8c will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show and will be the first Alfa to be sold in the US market in 2008. It’s powered by a 4.7L V8 developing 450hp (336kW) and 470Nm, which should make for potent performance. The engine will be sourced from Maserati, as will the suspension systems. The body is made of carbon fibre mounted on a steel chassis and parts of the interior are also made of carbon.
The 8c will have a 6sp dual-clutch gearbox with five settings: Manual-Normal, Manual-Sport, Automatic-Normal, Automatic-Sport and “ice” and will have F1-style paddles behind the steering wheel. This gearbox will allow the 8c to be used as a GT or sports car, depending on the settings.
