Renault Megane F1 Team R26 with free go-fast stickers
December 31st, 1969
Boy-racers around the world will be excited to know that Renault has showcased its Mégane F1 Team R26 at the Paris Motor Show, a car that builds on the success of the original F1 edition of the Mégane released back in January. The latest version features a limited slip differential as well as the same 2.0L turbo engine and “Cup” chassis. Thanks to the specific engine mapping and a modified exhaust system, peak power and torque figures are 230hp (169kW) and 310Nm respectively - 90 percent of peak torque is available from 2,000 all the way to 6,000rpm.
The Mégane F1 Team R26 comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, which provides for acceleration figures of 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds, while 1000m is covered in just 26.6 seconds. A stiffened suspension with specific dampers improves handling over the standard car and increased stopping power is thanks to the upgraded four-pot Brembo brakes.
Visuals include red-painted brake callipers, anthracite 18in alloys and the optional but free go fast stickers located on the bumpers, doors and roof. Inside, an F1 labelled plaque and Recaro buckets ensure that passengers realize that the Mégane F1 Team R26 is a little bit special. Despite all of Renault's success in Formula One, the French car maker is still without a decent high-end performance model, and these hotted-up hatchbacks are of little consolation.
