BMW’s planned updates for the 2007 5-series
December 31st, 1969
Although an all new model is expected for the BMW 5-series in late 2009, the German car maker is planning an extensive update of the car for its 2007 model. This will ensure that the car stays competitive against BMW’s rivals such as Audi and its new S6 and Mercedes, who recently changed its E-class sedan.
Autoblog.nl received a tip suggesting that the changes will include a revised front fascia with adaptive headlights and new fog lights integrated into the bumper. At the back, the car will likely receive new shape tail-lights and a new bumper. Further, buyers will be able to customise their new car with the addition of five new colors and six different wheel combinations. Inside, the doors are changed to match the style of those in the current 3-series, while a new steering-wheel and centre console will also make the cut. The new car may even feature the joystick-style gearshifter as seen in the new X5. iDrive receives another update, this time with extra modes for controlling air vents and bookmarks for radio, navigation and telephone.
Under the hood, the diesel versions get more power with the 535d producing 286hp and the smaller 525d developing 200hp. For the petrol powerplants, the 530i and 523i output 190hp and 272hp respectively and US markets get the 535i with the underrated 3.0L twin-turbo six-cylinder.
