Toyota releases 2007 Corolla in Japan
December 31st, 1969
These are the first of images of the next generation Corolla that goes on sale later this month in Japan. Details of the new car are up on Toyota’s Japanese website, which showcases both the sedan and wagon versions. The JDM delivered car is considerably different to the Auris concept that featured recently at the Paris Motor Show and we doubt this is the vehicle that will be sold as the Corolla replacement for markets outside Japan. Instead, for European and US markets, the Corolla will be replaced with a new car based on the Auris concept, although a name hasn't been confirmed as yet. It will receive a unique name and is expected to be larger than the JDM Corolla, coming equipped with an optional 2.0L engine.
In its home, Toyota is sticking with the Corolla nameplate but with the Axio tag added for its sedan and Fielder name for the wagon. For its tenth generation, Toyota engineers focused on improving quality levels and interior space rather than performance. Inside, the car gets a reversing camera as standard and double-folding rear seats that move at the touch of a single button.
Driving the wheels is a new version of the 1.8L four-cylinder mated with Toyota’s Super CVT-i gearbox developing 100kW and 175Nm of torque. There’s also a base version with a 1.5L motor and conventional five-speed manual transmission as well as a high performance four-wheel drive model.
More high-res images after the jump.

The new Corolla did not change much compare to the previous model. The front and
rear undergo some minor changes.Performance wise, no big deal either.I hope
the folks at Toyota understand what the public wants. The 2007 Civic is a
much better car value and market wise.

Reversing camera in Corolla as standard will be one of the best items to be added to Corolla. Do it quickly, produce it quickly so that Corolla lovers can byu it quickly and then park their Corollas easily, safely and quickly.

By ABDEL BASIR HAKIMZAI #21, Posted: 1/15/2008
hi, it doesnt make any difference whether they launch a new shape or stick to the old one,
corolla needs to sort the braking problem out before they go any further cuz i have heard from so many people complaining about braking, form God sake people pay millions for it why cant the company spend a few thousand on abs.
By ABDEL BASIR HAKIMZAI #22, Posted: 1/17/2008
people in Europe and America would not pay even 1/4 of what people pay in asia for a corrola because of its braking problems, asians people are being dodged by corrola's flash designs nothing else. this company is being so selfish that they are putting people's lives in danger by making such stupid cars without abs.......

By Ali #26, Posted: 4/17/2008
Hi,
I'm Ali from Pakistan. I'm one of those unfortunate "Pakistani" Corolla users who nearly lost his life while driving this piece of junk. I bought the 2008 1.3 XLI version (old shape) two months back. My vehicle was virtually in the running in period when it smashed into a bus. I was in third gear and was about to shift into fourth when I saw a bus without any lights slowly crossing a red signal (mine green) on the Islamabad highway at the I-8 sector junction. I was doing 55 and had to apply the brakes really hard. The vehicle response was almost zero and it skidded into the left-rear side of the bus with the front hood and frontal underneath frame permanently damaged. The vehicle has been rendered useless and the car was not insured. This all happened in the wee hours of the morning and it was dark. I have vowed never to buy a Pakistani assembled car, particularly a corolla, ever again. I payed 9,50,000rs (15,000$) for this peace of junk without any abs or airbags. Had I considered personal safety over "Resale value", I would've bought a brand new imported Nissan Sunny with Air bags ( Sentra, Bluebird) in the same price range. I'm planning to sue Toyota-Indus in Pakistan.

If the current Toyota Corolla was about 150 kg heavier in the front or the front springs were less stiff, the braking would be much better. During hard braking, the front suspension of most vehicles would dip a few inches. In the Pakistani made Toyota Corolla, there is no noticible dip in the front suspension due to (dynamic weight transfer). The diesel Corolla due to a heavier engine has better brakes. The Indus motor Co. should consider these suggestions to make this vehicle safer.
By Nayyar Ali Shah #28, Posted: 4/18/2008
I hope the new Corolla in Pakistan which is perhaps due later this year has CDR Diesel engine and improved brakes.
By Ali #29, Posted: 4/19/2008
Dear brother Nayyar,
If you value your life then buy an imported vehicle. ABS and Airbag should be standard features in all vehicles at reasonable price. But then again, it's just wishful thinking when it concerns Pakistani assembled vehicles.
