Is this the new Alfa Romeo 149?
December 31st, 1969
Alfa isn’t taking any chances with its latest attempt to penetrate the lucrative US car market, and we can’t wait for the return of the Italian label mainly because of the stunning 8C Competizione and 159 sedan. These two cars are already confirmed for launch in the US, but there’s been no word on the possibility of the entry level 147 hatch. However, the popular small car is soon to be replaced by an all new model, and mysterious images of an Alfa hatch with styling similar to the aforementioned 8C have turned up recently.
Reports suggest that this is actually a clay mock-up of the new car, which should arrive in both three and five door configurations. Measuring 4.40m in length, the new model is likely to grow in size and power. Engine options will range from a 120hp 1.4L four-cylinder motor up to a range topping 3.2L V6 with 260hp. There will be two diesel versions, which will include 1.9 and 2.4L units, as well as an all wheel drive performance model.
