Spy Shots: Ferrari F430 Challenge Stradale
December 31st, 1969
Ferrari’s Challenge Stradale edition of the F430 has been spotted in prototype form undergoing testing at Germany’s Nürburgring and it looks like the car is near completion. We’re expecting it to go on sale early next year, and like past CS models it will run a more powerful version of the 4.3L V8 in a stripped out bare-essentials body.
The current view is that the car will output close to 520hp in a body that’s 200lbs lighter than the standard F430. Carbon-fiber will be used to replace door panels and the rear grille, while the wheels will be replaced by even lighter magnesium alloys.
To crank out the extra power, Ferrari engineers will be tweaking the exhaust system with new tail pipes placed higher in the rear bar, and will tinker with the ECU. Larger disc brakes and callipers will be fitted all ‘round along with new tires.
